Excuse the bad word-play, but take heed of the sentiment: this is a wonderful and genuinely unique place to stay. Although the location is barely five minutes from the centre of the city, the neighbourhood is quiet and verdant, right on the river Leith. It's no exaggeration to say that we fell asleep to the water's soft gurgle, and that... More

The room was beautifully decorated with a great little balcony looking over the water of Leith. The bed (always the most important part of a stay) was utterly luxurious and we slept perfectly the whole three days. The location could not be better for being close to the action, but also completely secluded and private. However i think what made... More

From the moment we arrived and had help unloading the car (thank you Stewart for lugging my heavy bags upstairs) we felt at home. The house is beautiful, atmospheric, tastefully furnished, warm and welcoming. We loved the little touches; the decanter of sherry in the bedroom, the little fridge to hold fresh milk (I hate those little cartons of UHT),... More

I can't praise this place highly enough! The house is stunning, the room is beautiful, the location is spectacular and Stephanie and Stewart are such warm and generous hosts. I really appreciated the thought and care which had gone into making the stay so lovely - the soft bathrobe, lovely teas, shortbread, fresh milk in a quiet fridge, sherry in... More

This was our second stay at Bells Brae house and only confirmed that this truly is a very special place. It is one of those very rare finds, a quirky house filled with historic charm; comfortable but quality accommodation; furnishings and linen (just love the bathrobes) and thoughtful, generous hosts. It felt like our every need was catered for in... More

My wife and I stayed for two nights while travelling around the UK, and this was by far the highlight of our trip. The Location: Perfect. I love the amalgamated-villages that are Edinburgh, and Dean Village is a beautiful, hilly, surprisingly quiet and peaceful collection of 16th-18th century buildings and cobbled streets that is absolutely astonishing to find so close... We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bell's Brae B&B. The building is charming and characterful, as were the hosts. The location is quaint, quiet and ideal for exploring the city without being in the thick of it! Our room was very nice with a large comfortable bed and great views over the river. The homemade shortbread & decanter of sherry... More

My wife and I stayed at Bell' Brae at the end of the Coast and Castles long distance bike ride. We were looking to end our ride on a high and Bell's Brae did not disappoint. The house was full of history and character, our room was exquisite and Stewart and Stephanie were generous hosts. Lying in probably the world... More

We were very much looking forward to staying at Bell's Brae based on the website. This home and the friendly couple who own it completely exceeded our expectations. From a beautiful, historic home in an unexpected and uncitylike environment, to very tasteful decorations and a lovely guest bedroom, to a candlelabra on our breakfast table, Stuart and Stephanie couldn't have... What a great day when I happend upon the listing for Bell's Brae House! My husband & I spent 6 days there in October, 2012. It was a most enjoyable stay! The house is actually 2 historic properties that have been merged. The guest room & bath is in the older section which seem to date from the 1500's. There... More
