The rooms are basic and a good price for Glasgow. The staff were friendly and helpful, but be warned, some North Americans experience problems with their credit cards so have cash handy to pay. The location is excellent, as long as you don't mind being above a bar at night. The food was good and we loved Fraser (the guy... more

This real-ale pub is not usually listed as a hotel but it has several rooms on the top floor. excellent location in the heart of glasgow and it even has limited free parking if you can negotiate around the tables in the beer garden! there is a narrow staircase - no lift - to the small rooms. We had to... more

My husband and I, hardy Canadians we are, stayed at the BB in August 2007 before we set out for the West Highland Way walk. We read about the BB in The Lonely Planet and couldn't resist the opportunity to stay in a place with such a curious name. To our pleasant surprise, its architecture and exterior street appeal were... more

We stayed at Babbity Bowster for three nights, and chose it for the location and the fact that it serves real ale! However, we found the staff to be unwelcoming and unfriendly (totally unlike anywhere else we went in Glasgow). We returned from a night out (before last orders has been called at the bar) and asked if we could... more

The rooms are definitely an afterthought at Babbity Bowster. They are very basic. Plain white walls. Very small bathroom with sort of a jury-rigged shower. They did what they needed to do. We slept there and showered there. Babbity Bowster, itself, was terrific. It is an old style pub. Very friendly staff, great selection of beers. The rooms have keys... more

Touring Scotland as a lone female, I had serious qualms when the cabbie asked me why on earth I had chosen the Bowster rather than a more pretentious place. Truth to tell, it was rumored to be a small, down-to-earth lodging with great food, a university-based clientele, and a convenient location. All of these rumors proved to be blissfully accurate... more

Great place to stay, nice and clean rooms for best value. Located in a quiet street near city center. Friendly staff and owner. Very good food, too (try the haggis!). If you are looking for a mid-range place to stay, or a good pub, don't miss it! more

I have been staying at the Babbity Bowster yearly since 1992: found it in a tourist book and took a chance. Everything about it is super: a restored historic building (which is why they have not installed an elevator), simple rooms with no distractions, superb staff willing to haul your bags up two flights of stairs and decline even a... more

My brother and I stayed here for 2 nights and while I admit the room was small, utilitarian and the carpet needed a good clean, it was neat and the twin beds comfortable - although my brother thought the duvet was a sheet not a cover which was a little funny. We just shrugged our shoulders and went with the flow.... more

I came to Glasgow on a 2 day real pub crawl and so stayed at the CAMRA Good Beer Guide Babbity. The rooms were clean and tidy and suprisingly quiet. The landlord is a charachter and the staff knowledgable. The food is high quality and to be recommended. It also has a separate restaurant. You should also try the traditional breakfasts. The location is also very... more
