Myself, wife and two kids aged 3&6, booked in here over a weekend via 5PM Deal. Prior contact was made with John before our arrival, and all info he gave us was informative and helpful. When we arrived we were overwhelmed by how good, clean, spacious the lodges were. All the information on hand in the lodges and at the... More

Short but sweet stay for 2 nights. Easy to find and very pleasantly surprised at how big the lodge was. There was just the 2 of us this time but you certainly wouldn't be tripping over each other if there was more in your party. Pretty much all your needs are catered for, very clean and well maintained. warm, spacious,lots... More

Our second visit, the lodges had been improved even further. Clean, well equipped, warm, peaceful, and Pine Martins visible outside the kitchen window. Super Telly and sound system, range of DVDs to watch, total chill out. We took our two dogs, and, despite what has been said below, the dog rules are exactly what we would expect to protect the... Just returned from a 2 night break at Birchbrae and wishing we were still there! The lodge was wonderful, lovely decoration inside, everything you need while away, a real home from home. The location is peaceful, perfect for a quiet break away from it all. It is not always easy to find self-catering accommodation that has wheelchair access and allows... More

Just returned from a short stay and had an amazing time. Lodges are an excellent size for the 6 of us. The lodges are very well furnished and very comfortable. The location is beautiful and quite easy to locate. There is a communal lodge stocked with DVDs and board games which provides some alternative entertainment for those lazy days. Would... More

We have stayed at Birchbrae for 2 years now and are about to book our 3rd visit! The lodges are wonderful, spacious, well equipped, very clean and warm (needed in winter especially on our first visit when it reached -18!). There are a few rules to keep the lodges in good condition, like not leaving dogs alone in the lodge... More

Made and paid for a booking through 5pm having checked availability through the birchbrae website as we were restricted by school holiday dates. Contacted the owner who then said he'd taken too many bookings but could give us an alternative date which incurred a weekend surcharge. He also wanted to add a baby surcharge as we are a family of... More

Thanks you for your review. I must say that you have rather glossed over the detail and you have inaccurately recounted what happened. When you called to make your reservation, I said that the lodges allocated for 5PM vouchers on the dates you required were already booked out. I then offered you the closest alternative dates we had available which... More

We were regular visitors to Birchbrae and returned having visited other locations for a few years. Glad we did. Excellent location for visiting local sights or relaxing in the lodge. Other reviews detail things to do. Information booklet in lodge does not have many house rules - mainly local information. Our dog was made to feel very welcome by the... More

I booked Birchbrae after planning a few days away with friends to ascend Ben Nevis again. We wanted somewhere relaxing and with good facilities for the duration and somewhere we could take things at our pace. The lodges were very easy to find, being signposted from the main road, and after arranging early check in with the owner, were pleased... More

Excellent chalets in a nice woodland setting. Easily accomodate six, with three bedrooms ( 1 double and 2 twins), two bathrooms. Good sized kitchen and lounge areas. Their web site (June 2011) advertised that free and discounted golf was available at two local courses - and to our pleasant surprise it was with no hassle. For wet days they also... More
