We have just returned from a week at Hôtel les Ursulines in Autun, France. We had a fantastic pre-holiday experience! It was our first time at the hotel, and like all “first-times”, we were a little nervous, not knowing what to expect. We upgraded to a suite, #303. It was awesome! We had a nice sized terrace with table and... More

This hotel is of good quality, despite other reviews to the contrary. Admittedly, it is rather old and tired-looking, but we found the service to be very good with knowledgable, helpful staff. I used to live in Autun and the restaurant is popular and does excellent food - this has not changed. Do remember that the building is a conversion,... More

We chose Les Ursilines from the French guide "Chateaux & Hotels Collection." It is in the "Exclusive Hotels" section of the guidebook, which in no way does it warrant. Great location, walking distance from the city center of Autun. Quiet back street location, impressive entryway, decent lobby and very friendly desk staff made us hopeful. It was getting late and... Room 126 was supposedly one of the deluxe rooms. There was nothing deluxe about it. The room is awkwardly designed with lots of bulky furniture. Some of this is placed close together meaning you can't even wheel your luggage past the bed. In the middle of the room there is a bulkhead which makes for a low ceiling. Rather bizarrely... More

In a former convent in Autun the location of this hotel is fantastic as it forms part of the ancient walls of the town. The courtyard garden makes the most of this. The underground carpark is a real plus when finding parking places elsewhere in the old town is so difficult. We chose to stay at Les Ursulines because of... More

As this is a former convent, we were expecting a fine historic property. The reality is that after four separate owners, Les Ursulines has no clear identity. It is furnished with 40s-style club furniture and, as others have noted, the rooms are motel-like. That said, at 66 Euros, our room on the second floor was large, clean, comfortable and good... More

The hotel was sad and depressing. A smell of mold permeated the entire space. Our room had ripped furniture, no shower, only plastic cups, stains on the carpet, uncomfortable beds. And this was after we upgraded our room as the one that was booked was horrible. Location was good, but we would not book there again. It was the worst... More

While an ordinary motel-like room, the excellent restaurant and convenient location just up the street from the historical Autun center make this hotel very pleasant and an enjoyable stop for any traveller driving sound Burgundy. The garage below was an added plus. On the expensive side given the bland rooms but the dining was surprisingly outstanding.

The exterior of the hotel fools you into thinking that it will be more luxurious inside than it actually is. There is no doubt that the exterior is beautiful, and the cloister (where you can sit and watch the sun go down) has stunning views. However, inside, think "Best Western" - completely functional, lacking any style or period features etc.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
24 miles west of Beaune, in the old city of Autun, this charming hotel is a former 17th century convent, built on top of Roman ramparts. Magical transition when entering: from City side - a narrow street of the old city behind St Lazare cathedral - to Country side - suddenly the large curved windows of the convent offer a panoramic view over the Morvan Mountains. ... more   less
