One of the few centrally-located Bayeux hotels open during late January. I got a great rate of 128E for double room and half-pension. The breakfast selection was fantastic. Dinner in the restaurant was "correct" as the French say, nothing more. Rooms are definitely shopworn. My father and I stayed in rooms 3 and 4 on 1st floor (Eisenhower stayed in... More

Bayeux is a peaceful town (in the off-season even during a holiday weekend) but accustomed enough to tourists to offer a good variety of shops and restaurants. Many of these are within a short walk if you make a right turn out of Le Lion d'Or's courtyard. The town's other attractions are a little farther but the walks are reasonably... More

My daughter and I spent the night at the Hotel while visiting Normandy. Hey, I read it was Eisenhower's favorite hotel (not sure which Eisenhower, probably Ike, maybe his son?) The rooms are quaint. The bed was comfortable. The climb to the room invigorating (no elevator). Breakfast was in a nice room; but, not really worth the 13€ in my... More

We stayed on our first trip to France, and were blown away by the prettiness of the hotel. Also ate at the restaurant, well worth it. Our room looked over the roof tops of the the local area, and was a picture in its self. THe staff were most accommodating, looking after requests without fuss or trouble. A genuinely nice... More

I stayed at this hotel for two night with my two teenage children and my parents. The hotel was very accommodating and friendly. I requested a room on the first floor for my parents which was great and the stairs were no problem for them. My children and I were on the top floor in a spacious triple with a... More

Had a fantastic stay at this hotel, its location is perfect for walking in to the town centre and visiting the tapestry. Car park is a little tight but a godsend. The food was excellent in the restaurant and the staff could not have been more helpful we were celebrating a birthday and they brought out the desert with candles... More

Perhaps other rooms are better in this hotel than this one. We didn't mind the stairs, but we were definitely put off by the nursing home smell in the lobby. Not to mention the worn carpet, the communal bedspreads, the mold in the tub, the peeling paint, and the lack of Internet access in the room. When we opened the... More

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay at Le Lion d'Or! The hotel itself is located right in the town center so was perfect for us. We travelled with two small children and my parents ( both of who have knee trouble). We loved the atmosphere of the hotel, the lobby had plenty of pictures of famous guests who have... More

Room was OK, but the lobby had a musty smell and the climb (3 flights up, no elevator) was unacceptable, with no warning from the hotel -- especially since I had noted in my reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary and were requesting a lovely room with few or no stairs. Breakfast was just OK. If I were to... More

We had a hard time finding a room in Bayeux on line. Booked Le Lion d'Or from booking.com. What a stroke of luck. The train was two and half hours late, we missed our connection out of Paris. Ended up having to take the train to Caen, then take a taxi from Caen to Bayeux. By chance, I called reception... More
