Just stayed here on business for 3 nights. had some reservations having read other reviews. Yes the building is rough round the edges on the outside and a little dated on the inside. But the staff are lovely, very helpful and friendly. Room was a decent size with very comfortable beds. Good sized bathroom with decent shower. TV could do... More

Dear Atters68, Thank you for taking the time to contribute. I appreciate and thank you for your comments about the staff and our breakfast offering. Our impending investment will certainly take care of our infrastructural shortcomings and the remainder of our old TVs will be very much a thing of the past as we go thoroughly flat screen. Likewise, the... More

We have just returned from yet another lovely stay at The Rock. Yes, a little shabby bit it never fails to remain constant in the service and comfort that we experience, it is always a joy to stay here. The menu in the Barbary Bar could do with a little change now and again, but the menu and food in... More

Dear Liz M, Thank you for this contribution. You will be pleased to read that we are working on Barbary Bar menu changes right now. Your comments about the food in our main restaurant are most welcome and we shall certainly look at the pace of service in there. The last thing that we want you to feel is 'hurried'.... More

Old fashioned hotel in Gibraltar. The view is spectacular, large rooms. If you like places as they were in the early 60s ( myself I do ), then sleep there. Staff very friendly, but the whole place needs some refurbishment. Take care - dont leave the balcony open, the famous monkeys can enter in the room otherwise.

We enjoyed a revisit to the hotel after 8 years. It hasn't changed at all. Still needing a refurbishment. Lots of peeling paint and tired furniture but the place does have a certain charm. The pool area has been refurbished and is very attractive. The staff are excellent. Rooms are a reasonable size with 6' bed and small balcony, spacious... More

Dear Stevejdp, Thank you for your review. I was pleased that you were impressed with the pool area that had been refurbished since your last stay. There is much more investment to come with our many exciting plans. Your comments about our staff, food and service were most welcome. Even after our refurbishment it is our aim to retain the... Stayed for 7 nights 7 – 14 May 2013, Room 406 A delightful, Colonial style hotel, with character and good views over Gibraltar harbour and bay. We had a thoroughly enjoyable week, but there were hiccups. A lot has been said in past reviews about the general run down condition of the hotel, and the promised refurbishment, I agree with... Dear JohnRNash, Thank you for your comprehensive critique. As I write, this room is being thoroughly checked and remedial action taking place where required. I was pleased that there were also a number of positives to report and that in the main you enjoyed your stay. I fully take on board your point regarding getting rid of 'niggles' and you... More

Stayed for 3 nights 7 - 10 May 2013, room 131. The hotel is beautiful and exudes a certain 1930's charm and elegance. The exterior of the hotel is, as many have put on here, in need of a re-paint but that does not really detract from the overall experience. Our room was great, spacious, big bathroom, balcony, sea view... More

From the Airport you have a couple of choices the number 5 bus into town and the the number 2 bus up the Europa Road. There is a bus stop outside the hotel. Fares are £1 each single or day ticket for £2.25. The easy option if you have lots of luggage is taxi which cost us £5.20. When we... More

Dear dsan50, Thank you for your review. Your comment about the palm fronds on our Wisteria Terrace will be investigated and action taken where appropriate. As you intimate, the views from there are excellent and should not be spoilt by unchallenged growth. Thank you too for your comments about our bar staff. We look forward to you returning in August. Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Built on Gibraltar's western flank with stunning views across the bay, it has been welcoming guests since 1932. As the colony’s premier hotel the guest book is littered with famous names as diverse as Sir Winston Churchill and the Two Ronnies! Tastefully renovated, it has the character of a bygone era with the facilities of a modern 'Grand Hotel'. Traditional afternoon tea is served in the lounge and the hotel’s Rib Room Restaurant is recognised as one of the finest places to dine in Gibraltar. The atmospheric Barbary Bar and adjoining wisteria covered terrace are wonderful places to be on a summer’s evening, both are delightful meeting places, the latter a popular venue for weddings. The hotel’s pool area and gardens have an air of tranquillity, yet the centre of town is only a 10-minute downhill walk. ... more   less
