The woman who checked us in for our one night stay was very pleasiant. Rooms are quite small and you have to negotiate around the furniture and anyone else staying in the room with you. We asked for a quiet room but received a room overlooking the main street. Noisy. The recommendations of a location to eat and the restaurant... More

We enjoyed our stay there in a comfortable, triple room. Very friendly staff. Close to museums, nice tapas bars and subway station. Rooms clean and quiet. Good value for pricey Madrid. It takes about 1 hour to get there from the airport. Would probably stay there next time. More

We stayed at this hostel for 4 nights. It was located in an apartment building on the main street not far from Reina Sofia museum, about 20 minute walk to Puerta del Sol, and 15 minute walk to Atocha train station. Also in near proximity were Prado museum and Retiro park. Our room was one floor up from the lobby... More

The airline lost our luggage and the hotel staff couldn't have been nicer helping us track it down and dealing with the airline. Rooms were basic but clean. Great location to walk to anything. More

This place was fine for a trip in early July 2011, two nights. It's nothing spectacular, but I can't find any particular faults with it either. The room was clean, quiet (others have said it is very loud, but we did not have that problem at all), comfortable. It was a small room by American standards, but seemed fairly normal... More

Stayed here several days this summer and last. Perfect location for the big 3 museums. Easy walk to Atocha Station where the 2 euro airport shuttle arrives/leaves from--as well as trains to many destinations. Wonderful, helpful staff. Reasonably priced, spotless. Air conditioned. Reasonably priced restaurants in the back streets behind the hostal. More

Perfect! Extremely nice staff. Clean, silent, cheap and excellent location. If you need luxury this is not your place, but if you came to explore Madrid city, not hotel, and just want to have a good night sleep in cozy place this is perfect. Staff has a lot of good tips to do in Madrid, from trips to restaurants. Easy... More

I´ve never stayed in a hostal before and overall it was a good experience. The staff is very friendly, it´s REALLY very well located and good value. The room is quite clean, with a good size, silent (with soundproof windows), good bed, pillows and towels. The only 2 cons are that the shower is relatively small (not a problem for... More

We (couple with 1 y.o baby) stayed in this hotel in the end of May. Air condtioning didn't work because it's centeraly turned on only in June-and it's very hot.Even if you want to open a window so fresh air get in - you receive terrible noise from one of the most central streets of Madrid. The room was so... More

Hostal Barrera offers good value, clean accommodation. Our room was not very large and the noise from the street took a little getting used to, but that is to be expected in a city centre location. We purchased a 3 day metro pass during our stay, but truthfully we didn't really need them as any of the places we wanted... More
