Basiliani Hotel was a great place to stay. Wonderful location. Excellent breakfast. Lovely, helpful staff. Who knew staying in a cave could be so great! Modern furnishings, wifi, mini fridge, etc. Even the reception area and breakfast room were cool!

This hotel is in the quarter of Matera that has sassi fitted out to modern standards. Basiliani Hotel is one such fitted-out hotel. Our room was clean and quiet. The hotel was convenient to the whole town. The staff -- Maria Angela, Paola and Fabio -- were attentive and friendly. Maria went out of her way to explain the layout... More

We had an enormous room, there were just two of us but there were two large double beds, one on a mezzanine floor, and a single bed in a sort of mini cave to one side of the main cave! The decor was ultra modern in red, white and black, sounds wrong for a cave but it worked well. Good... More

Great hotel, I would not know why to rate it less than 10. We were lucky to stay at room 125, nextdoor neighbour is a local artist, beautiful man, could share lots of stories about the area, very creative work. Hotelroom was just like in heaven, as far as you can experience heaven on earth.

This is a great "cave house"! It's a bit difficult to find; but it is worth the effort. The hotel will provide direction w/ pictures upon booking. I found a GPS to be beneficial. It's a bit of a walk from the car park to the hotel. Lucca was available to ferry our bags Personal service is evident from check-in.... More

This hotel is excellent, not a three star, I give it 5 stars! Our room was spacious, and very modern decorated with cofee facilities and a mini bar and wi-fi, free. I enjoyed the lovely toiletries, very nice! Breakfast was great and Guiseppi and all other staff were extremely helpfull and friendly. Hotel is in the oldest part, with an... More

This certainly is a unique place. All the rooms are built into 9000 year old caves. The rooms are very large, well done and comfortable. The staff is very nice and the place is well run. But--- I have two concerns:1. There was mold growing along the bottom of the wall in our bathroom. We are not terribly allergic to... More

We loved this hotel - a cluster of private rooms (some in caves, some not) on the edge of the Sassi and its ravine. Very modern and comfortable furniture inside what appears to be a primitive dwelling. Staff were wonderful (my husband was sick and they took good care of him.) Good breakfast, good restaurant recommendations, beautiful views, and the... More

The best overall hotel of the some 200 that I have stayed in. Location: convenient to both sassi districts and 5 minutes from the main sites if caveso as well as the main stretch for traditional dining (via brunno bozzi). Right outside the front door is a fantastic panorama. Be sure to turn right through the arch at the monastery... More
