This was the most unexpected and unpolished yet memorable stay of our 3-week trip. When I told the proprietor, Clark, that his world was "interesting," I meant it in the best way: a gated castle in the country with painted ceilings, group meals, goats to feed, swings, a train to Bologna, tame bunnies, books to borrow...a truly magical place.

The castle is magical, especially at night. Between the view, the books, and the peerless hospitality that Clark offers as a host, the experience is just lovely. I cannot imagine a better place to stay in Emilia Romagna.
