The best thing this hotel has going for it is its location. Florence is a very walkable city, and this hotel is very close to many of the major attractions. We were a little disappointed in the size of the rooms, but this is not unusual in Europe. We may have been a bit spoiled by the size of our... More

Just a couple minutes from Santa Maria Novella train station, ideal location. From our room we could see the Duomo... beautiful siena tile roofs all the way to the dome. The rooms are European sized (which means they are not overly large) but everything is clean and comfortable. Don't expect the 5 star extras. But if you're looking for a... More

We really enjoyed our stay at the Porta Faenza. We arrived shortly after 12:30 and were able to secure a quiet room on the top floor that was huge (based on European standards) that allowed us to have a lovely four night stay in Florence. The room was quiet and comfortable, but my only draw back was that the bathroom... More

The hotel has lovely service desk staff and a nice breakfast. We paid 130 euros a night for what we feel was worth about 90 a night. Room was too small for us to open our luggage fully, bed sheets didn't fit the bed properly so it led to an uncomfortable sleep and the bathroom had an unpleasant damp smell.... More

Dear Guest, we thank you for your review, Hotel Porta Faenza has been converted into a hotel from an old Florentine Palace of eighteenth century and it maintains the original structure, it’s for this that we have different size of rooms. We inform you that your booking was for a double economy room. The Economy Rooms are double rooms of... More

A great value in a convenient location. Just minutes from shopping, the Duomo, the Ufizzi gallery. A clean room with an adequately sized bathroom. A buffet breakfast was included that had a wide selection of Italian cheeses, meats, fruits, cereals, breads, juices, and coffee. Front desk staff was very helpful locating items of interest. Only negative comment involves the small... More

This hotel was a good find. Helpful, friendly staff who always had a smile. Room was very clean, tastefully furnishished and had a good bathroom. Great breakfast with a wide selection to chose from. Location only a few minutes from the Duomo and two minutes from the station. Negatives: Poor shower, which didn't have a thermostatic valve to regulate water... More

As many other reviews already made clear, this is a very nice hotel. Location is perfect as most attractions (if you can enter them....) are at a walking distance. Quiet room, good Wifi connection, satisfactory breakfast, friendly staff. Only the spoken floor numbers in the elevator are becoming a minor nuisance if you stay longer...

A very good and charming hotel 5 minutes walk from the railway and bus station and near all the tourist sites. Close to the market and many good restaurants. Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Hotel Porta Faenza is situated in Via Faenza - one of the earliest medieval streets in Florence - near Porta Faenza, a gate in the fifteenth-century city walls. It was created in 1997 through the restoration and conversion of Palazzo Pegna, the old residence of a family of merchants, whose original structure has been kept intact. Porta Faenza was part of the city walls and was situated at the end of what is up till now called Via Faenza. It has been so called not for being placed towards the town in Emilia, but from the name of the Nuns from Faenza, who had their convent in the neighbourhood once. Between 1534 and 1537 Porta Faenza was joined to the Fortezza da Basso without being demolished: by watching attentively you can still distinguish its squared profile in the central bastion towards the city or its arch from the inside of the fortress. The Hotel will make you savour the warm atmosphere of the old-time Florentine houses: the tile floor, the exposed beams, the old tools scattered everywhere, together with all the comforts will make it your ideal home in the old Florence. The Hotel Porta Faenza is centrally located, very close to the main railway station (Santa Maria Novella), to Palazzo dei Congressi (the Conference Centre) and to the Fortezza da Basso. The most interesting monuments and museums in Florence are within easy walking distance. For being situated in a pedestrian precinct, the Hotel is a quiet and pleasant place, the ideal point of departure for you to discover Florence and its artistic and cultural life. ... more   less
