Located outside of Lucca in very nice surroundings, this hotel could have been splendid, which it was not. Upon arrival I thought that this was a place that had not had any renovation for over 20 years or so, being confirmed when entering our (highly priced!) suite which did not smell all too fresh, so I quickly opened all the... From May, 20th till 24th we spent our last part of our Northern Italian Journey. We travelled by our classic vintage Mini-Cooper as mentioned before. The Albergo Villa Casanova is located only a few miles / kilometers away from the old small medieval city of amazing Lucca. This particular city we highly recommend, too. Even to reach the Villa -... The location was challenging to find but not an issue as lots of signposts and satnav just about coped and it was very much worth the effort. Only 15 mins from Lucca, 14 rooms in this converted viilla make it a serene place to balance the bustle and business of the town. The owners and staff are totally charming, happy... More

We recently ended our 9 day tour of Tuscany with two nights here and it was a truly spectacular property with impeccable service. The suite, which was on the upper floor and had a picturesque view of the mountains, was newly renovated and immaculate, including a large spacious sitting room with TV/refrigerator/coffee service and a separate bedroom with a king... We recently, 2 weeks ago, stayed at your beautiful Villa in Lucca. Our trip to Tuscany was 10 days long. We stayed at your Villa 3 nights. The stay with you was the highlight of our trip. If we had to do it all over again, we would have stayed more nights with you. Your villa, the food, the service,... More

I stayed in May (I have just been converted to doing reviews as I have found them so useful when booking other trips!). My stay surpassed all my expectations and was definately 5 star. I was in need of some peace and quiet to recharge my batteries and have the space to make some big decisions. It definately delivered this.... More

The proprietors of this lovely villa are getting everything right. The rooms are beautifully appointed. The service is impeccable. We left feeling that we had been part of the family. The setting is gorgeous and there is plenty to do at the hotel (wine tasting, tennis, walking, horseback riding, a pizza making class, swimming, for example) as well as in... More

This hotel is a delight. The owner Marianne welcomed us and her standard of service and attention to detail is imparted to all the staff who really care about their role in building this hotel to the high star rating it is. Suites are luxury and every price level is value for money. Choose a balcony if your budget stretches... More

Albergo Villa Casanova is a magical place to stay. It is refined, but not pretentious. Our rooms were elegant, clean, extremely spacious with wonderful views of the Tuscan landscape – fantastic, comfortable beds and amazing bathtubs and showers and excellent air-conditioning. My husband and I stayed in one room and our two daughters ages 8 and 10 stayed in another... More

I wish I could award more than 5 stars to this hotel, because it provided a fantastic 'experience' beyond what I've ever encountered on vacation. I recently stayed here for 5 nights with my family prior to returning to the sometimes-chaos at home and it was absolutely everything I needed to relax and enjoy the company of my family. As... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Albergo Villa Casanova is the result of a complete renovation of an 18th-century Tuscan farmhouse set in 360 acres of mixed woodland just ten minutes from Lucca. Newly reopened in December 2009, Albergo Villa Casanova is now a distinctive and relaxed, luxury boutique hotel with 14 incredibly spacious suites, restaurant, magnificent terraces, infinity swimming pool and tennis court. The valley of Lucca and the tower of Castello Nozzano can be viewed from the hotel and the area is ideal for walking, cycling and exploring the historical walled town of Lucca, home to Puccini. It's also a perfect location to just relax with a book and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Numerous festivals take place throughout the year. The world famous Puccini Festival takes place at the open-air theatre at Torre del Lago, a few Kilometres from the hotel. Albergo Villa Casanova has its own chapel (see section on Weddings) and several adjoining country houses, one of which dates back to the 15th century. The original owners were the Balbani family who later gave their name to the locality. ... more   less
