So much has already been written about the qualities of this hotel and I see no reason to disagree. For us however it was the location right in old town that made it so special. Before choosing this hotel we had looked at descriptions of other hotels mainly situated up on the hill beyond the harbour and the Santa Caterina... More

In January 2013 we booked a weeks holiday to begin on the 6th May 2013 at the Porto Santa Maria Hotel Funchal this was to coincide with the Flower Festival, confirmation of the booking was received also in January,we normally take a wheelchair for my wife to use when walking long distances but thought it not necessary on this trip... We have now stayed at this hotel on three occasions and have found it uniformly efficient and friendly. I only withhold the fifth "star" because of the work being carried out on the waterfront at present occasioning a considerable amount of noise, though we were compensated for this with a significant discount. Having booked a "junior suite" we were "upgraded"... More

On arrival we were given a free upgrade on our room, We were also informed of construction work taking place on the sea front. We had not been fully informed about this from Thomas Cook. However we were offered 10 Euros per person per day for the duration of our stay and to be spent in the hotel. If I’m... More

After much deliberation, we decided this hotel would be suitable and we booked a junior suite. I can highly recommend this. We were on the first floor with a large lounge, self catering kitchen, well appointed bathroom, huge bed and nice balcony overlooking the pool and sea. One side of our suite overlooked the same area as the 'garden view'... More

We have just spent a week at this charming hotel. It was our second visit and the hotel had not changed from our last visit when we found it to be special. Other aspects of the holiday did disappoint; the weather was dry but dreary and the major works on the seafront of Funchal have detracted from the overall charm... More

This Hotel is superbly placed for the old town of Funchal. It overlooks the harbour and you are able to see all the cruise ships coming in. The unfortunate thing this year is the noise of the waterfront works. This starts early and finishes late, rather spoiling the otherwise good holiday. I will use this hotel again but will check... Nice and friendly. Not too small or big. Close to the center of town with many nice local restaurants. The room on 2:nd floor was comfortable and had a fantastic sea view with a sunny balcony. We made our own breakfast. Enjoyed good lunches in the garden/poolarea.

We stayed here for a week at the end of April and were delighted with the choice of hotel. Our stay was on a bed and breakfast basis only, so can't comment on the food other than at breakfast, where a varied hot and/or cold buffet was provided of a good standard. Our room was a junior suite on the... More
