As a family we visited Guimaraes and stayed at this most interesting Pousada of years gone by. Historically impressive with spectacular views of the city below, as the Pousada sits atop on the hill. The hotel staff was impeccable and eager to please. More

This historic pousada was a highlight for us. The location above the city and overlooking the valley below was very picturesque. The grounds behind the building was like the hotel itself, a fascinating place to explore. The many common rooms were spacious and impressive with antique furniture, often found displayed in museums, on which you could sit and read and... More

Staying here for our 20th anniversary. We drove in today, fighting through construction in the middle of the city. GPS could not locate it and we spent extra half-hour driving atop of the mountain, we stumbled onto the right path. Hotel staff says that this is more of a norm, so drive slowly as there are plenty of signs. We... More

This is an impressive and interesting place to stay overlooking the city and should be as you are staying in a former convent. The public rooms are very large with old paintings, furniture and large artworks of Portuguese tile both inside and outside by the fountain. Our room was not large as it had been one of the original bedrooms... More

The setting is breathtaking as it used to be a monastery overlooking the city- there are grand halls and wonderful Portuguese 17th-century tiles everywhere. The rooms are ok, I found them a bit on the monastical side and the four-poster beds not the most comfortable but that is understandable considering the building's background. Did not have dinner there but breakfast... More

This Pousada makes the most of its architectural heritage - set within a 17th century monastery. There is an excellent ambience - cool and calm. The cloisters are beautiful and the dining hall full of atmosphere. The service was first rate - nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, who were always very pleasant and professional. On... More

Absolutely wonderful. Staying in a former convent with the air of a palace is not for every day. The gardens are beautiful and good for walks and meditate. The pool has a wonderful situation overlooking the city. The halls and corridors make us go back in time. The rooms are very comfortable and the beds even have a roof (or... More

We stayed here on our honeymoon and it was a brilliant place to stay for lots of reasons! The building is beautiful, so interesting and joy to explore inside and outside the gardens. Sitting drinking champagne (provided by the hotel for our honeymoon I think) on the back terrace was lovely. We were lucky enough to have a room in... More

We stayed at this superb re-incarnation of a 12th c monastery at an unbelievably low price for bed and breakfast. We had gone on the pousadas of Portugal website and found that one could buy five nights b. and b. at pousadas for 400 euros: the so-called pousada Golden Passport. The condition was that one had to make the reservations... More
