I stayed at this hotel for a winter activity break. The staff were all friendly and could not do enough to make my stay enjoyable. Would definitely return again. The breakfasts were excellent with an enormous choice of food. The evening meals were very varied and ample portions.

Had a short break in the summer : Kalevala was quiet but the service was great. The room was comfortable, the food was very good (and a great surprise, good for vegetarians) and the views all round were beautiful. The sauna and lake were brilliant - we felt really invigorated. Would go back just for that!

Hotel is situated at close ski trails and lake, about 5km to city/ village. The rooms were basic decoration and equipment. The restaurant was ok, buffet style. There are winter war museum just close the hotel. If you arrive by train or airplane, need to take taxi from Kajaani to Kuhmo. If you are interested at nature there is lot... More

In lovely position beside beautiful lake. All the staff were friendly and charming. The food wasn't great, but perhaps that's just Finland! Spent the night in bear hide photographing bears - fascinating but exhausting. Worth it if you have the stamina.

We joined an EXODUS winter experience week in this Hotel. The group of 15 of us had the most amazing time there. The hospitality was superb and EXODUS did a great job in getting us all there and back with no hitches. The winter activities are beyond belief - cross country skiing instruction, snow-shoe safari, Snow mobile safari, ice fishing,... More

This hotel was excellent. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is warm and cosy, although could do with more communal seating areas. There is a small sofa seating area in reception next to a big fire which is nice. Also a smaller seating area in the restaurant. There is a pool table and Wii that can be used... More

Booked direct three nights "Brown Bear Adventure" - bed, breakfast, evening meal, airport transfers. Was advised a board with hotel/my name would be displayed at airport. No! Caught transfer taxi just before its departure for 90 minutes journey. Cross-shaped hotel, rooms at rear overlook lake BUT audible noise of extractors from pulic rooms. Rooms VERY HOT (27C) despite a/c which... More

We stayed for 2 nights and had 2 connecting rooms. Bikes and scooters (non-motorised type) can be rented from the hotel and there are lovely cycling paths through the forest starting right outside the door. My two young daughters swam in the lake and we had a fascinating half-day visit to Kalevala Village open air museum. The weather was beautiful... More
