This was a quaint farm B&B, owned by a woman whose granddaughters run it for her in the summer. The little sitting room was great-we could relax and read while our son slept. It was much homier and less sparse than most of the other hotels we stayed in Iceland. There was also a shared kitchen if you were planning on cooking for yourself. The only real issue for us was our misunderstanding of how "geography" works in Iceland. If you go into TripAdvisor looking for the best things to do in Akureyri, all of the things around Lake Myvatn come up. What no one seems to tell you is that Akureyri is actually an hour and fifteen minutes from Lake Myvatn, so 2 and a half hours were spent everyday "commuting" to Lake Myvatn. We didn't do anything but have dinner in Akureyri, so we really made a mistake with the location. Always make sure you check actual distance between a hotel and the sights you want to visit.

We arrived only to find out that the business was closed and our reservation would not be honoured. No contact, no calls, no e-mails......nothing. ....they just decided at the last minute to close up and leave a number of people stranded (who needless to say were FURIOUS) No contact information was given, we were just left on our own to figure it out. Would NEVER use this business again nor any business associated with the owners. They should be charged or at the very least sued for our aggravation.

This farm guesthouse was our best accommodation experience in a 17 day trip to Iceland. The guest accommodation has a separate entrance. The upstairs bedrooms have views of the lush agricultural valley. As a visitor who likes to self cater, the small well equipped kitchen was perfect. A bonus was the small separate sitting room. Making guests feel welcome is a family tradition, started by the grandmother of the twin sisters who looked after us. There was a chance to wash and dry clothes (outdoor line). The breakfast was good. One suggestion is to provide gluten free bread for guests who request it. If it's not possible, reply to the request by email, saying that in advance. Overall, I recommend this guesthouse highly. It really is a home from home.

We stayed at Ytra Laugaland in August of 2013 and I feel bad about waiting so long to write this review! My husband and I loved staying here, meeting Vilborg, and enjoying this cozy farmhouse in a beautiful valley outside Akureyri. The beds were super comfortable with warm down duvets, breakfast was delicious (with locally made blueberry jam), the bathroom was super clean, and there was a nice little kitchen area upstairs which made it easy to fix our own simple dinners. I think there are only three rooms - I did not see inside the downstairs room, but both upstairs rooms have beautiful peaceful views of the surrounding valley and mountains. In addition to all these nice things, we had informed Vilborg before our stay that we are vegetarian, and she went out of her way to make sure we had vegetarian food available at breakfast. Overall, a very special place with warm and welcoming people.

We loved this place just outside Akureyri. The place is in a lovely icelandic house with a great view on the valley, the room were big and the bathroom was clean. This house has like 3 guestrooms, so it's basically like being alone. The breakfast was one of the best breakfast I had in Iceland: the owner made cakes for us (I still miss the chocolate one!) and light some candles on the table. A lovely little place to visit the North.

Very Peaceful place to stay in. We had asked for a double bed - in spite of the entire B&B being empty we were given a room on a twin sharing basis. Other than that our stay was brilliant. The rooms were nicely done - the shared bathroom was fully equipped. Sleep quality was five star and breakfast filling. Must check out the homemade compotes and cakes!

staying at a farm 10 km west of Akureyri with friendly hosts was one of the highlights of my Icelandic trip. the house was clean and light. Breakfast delicious and fresh. Bathrooms and shower are shared, but they are extremely clean and I never had to wait. In fact, that accounts for rates being extremely reasonable. For all the money you are saving, you can engage in a variety of activities around Akureyri, such as whale watching, horseback riding and thermal spas. Highly recommend.

Staying here felt like spending the night at grandma's house: cozy rooms, personal service, breakfast in the morning. Though the farmhouse is located in a pastoral area full of rolling hills and horses, it's only a 10 minute drive south of Akureyri and its numerous shops and restaurants. The price of a night's stay here is quite a bargain. The hostess/innkeeper was very inviting and her university-aged granddaughter chatted with me about Iceland as she had stopped by to visit that morning. There are only a few rooms here, so you really do feel at home, and not like you're at a corporate hotel. My only complaint is that the Wifi signal was quite weak and only seemed to work in the common area. Oh, well- the reason I was there was to unplug, so it wasn't missed very much! I would certainly stay again.

My husband and I had an absolutely amazing stay at Ytra Laugaland. I'm so thankful I discovered it as it really is a hidden gem! We felt so at home- it truly brought me back to my childhood when I used to stay with my grandmother. Vilborg (the owner/hostess) is just the sweetest lady and and the property is absolutely breathtaking. Just perfect!

We had a wonderful stay at Ytra Laugaland. Everything -- the spacious and comfortable room in a cozy and charming house, delicious breakfast, a wonderful hostess, and a convenient and beautiful location -- is excellent about this place, and at a very reasonable price (especially compared to other lodging in Akureyri) at that. I highly recommend this if you're in the Akureyri area.
