Avoid this place at all costs! We had a room booked for 2 nights via email (it was a voucher). When we called him on the day of the check-in, the owner told us that he doesn’t have a room for us for the first night and offered us to sleep in the living room(!), calling it a “good solution”. When we asked for the money back at least for the first night, he refused, saying that “we want to make a profit of him” and hung up. Tried to call him, but no luck. We had to urgently book another place, but after 20 minutes(!) he called saying that he found a room in some other hotel, which would also ruin our plans for the next day, so we just stayed in another place. No money was returned. If this is how he does business, I don’t want to know what the rooms look like. If you want to be sure that you have a place to spend a night, better look elsewhere.

My friend and I came to visit Akureyri and we where gonna stay 5 nights here. We only lasted 3 and then we booked another guesthouse. We where moved from one room to another 2 times and also moved to another guesthouse of his without getting any email or any notice that we where being relocated. He told us thought the phone when we where calling for a check in at 11:00pm when we where tired and not in a mood after driving for 10 hour, so we just went to Amma guesthouse as we had the address of that place. Everything was really dirty in Amma guesthouse and he constantly blamed it on another person who was supposed to clean but he took no responsibility as the host of the guesthouse. He didn't make any make plans according to the situation with the corona virus, there where no sanitizers or anything, everybody used the same towel to dry their hands. When we moved to the other guesthouse of his (Our gesthouse) the next day. He got us a room we where happy with but then the next day he asked us to move again to another smaller room. That is when we could't take in anymore and we left. The host was traveling so it was hard to get in touch with him and at one point no one answered us for 6 hours so we where just wondering around with all our stuff with no place to go. We had to ask Airbnb for a refund because Gunnar would't give us our money back and was really really rude through the phone and called us many names, that we where unreasonable and a difficult person and more.

There is no reception, so we had to "self check-in", but It went well. Our room was clean with comfortable beds. Kitchen is well equipped. Location is really good, just few steps from the city center.

Clean guest house, you have a shared kitchen and living room. Only two bathrooms for too many rooms. If you leave the windows open when you come back a lot of flies. I requested the invoice and the man looked at me as "martian".

Fine for a 1 night stay but pretty "average". The kitchen could have been better provisioned & it lacked the warmth of other guesthouses we experienced whilst driving the Ring Rd. The bathroom was large & clean, rooms smallish. Handy for the Botanical Gardens which were very nice. Probably wouldn't stay again.

Our weird check in experience soured our stay at Amma. When you arrive there are signs directing you to call a number to check in, shortly we were met by a staff member and taken downstairs. He powered up his laptop and searched for our booking, we were informed the room we booked and paid for wasn’t available. We were then offered a different room, I explained we paid for the more expensive room so we would need the difference refunded if it wasn’t available, it took ages but finally we had a room. The staff member didn’t know the difference in price exactly but said it was around 2000 ISK and gave me a cash refund. I checked the price difference when I got to my room, it was 3500 ISK, which annoyed me, but it was such an odd check in I didn’t want to chase the money. Room was comfy and clean as was bathroom, try to get an upstairs room, the shared bathroom is much larger and nicer upstairs. Shared kitchen is older but clean and has everything you need to cook. Laundry is available to use, a big bonus in Iceland! Could have been a good place to stay if check in hadn’t gone so poorly.

We booked a room with doublebed. The room and the bathroom was very big, clean and comfy. Although we arrived at midnight and the owner wasn't there, we could reach him by telephone and he told us all the details. We would stay here again again!

I nice small place near town centre, in higher place. You have to walk up get there. Joint kitchen and shower. No breakfast but you can make your own in kitchen. Worth its price in Iceland. Rooms were however quite small for two persons.
