Hotel Cabin is a budget hotel located in Reykjavik. Our main policy has always been, to offer travellers visiting Reykjavík comfortable and economic accommodation right in the heart of the city. The standard rooms are the cheapest accommodation we have to offer and as the name implies they are very basic but comfortable. The superior rooms are bigger and come with a bathtub with a shower and refrigerator. The Superior rooms with a view are all on the hotel´s 7th floor and offer a magnificent view of the city or the ocean. They come with free wireless internet, a refrigerator, a tea- and coffee maker and a hairdryer. The hotel is excellently located within a walking distance from the city centre as well as the Laugardalur area.

Beds were ok, cleanliness wasn’t great and condition of the rooms are poor. Food was appalling, only 2 hot options that were cooked poorly, and wasn’t served exactly the hottest. The rice clumped together and I didn’t bother eating the chicken. Flavourless food that was cold.

This is a review of the Hotel with my findings of other stuff on my trip . I travelled with my wife daughter and her husband . We arrived at the airport to find it really clean and modern . Please be aware the walk from the plane to collect your baggage is quite a distance so if you have poor mobility please be aware there were a few wheel chairs dotted about . We arranged transport with Flybus there's a desk just before you leave they gave us a coloured card for our hotel drop off . Coach to main bus station then transfer to mini bus for hotel , no problems at all and all staff friendly and helpful . Hotel :- Reception staff friendly and helpful check in quick please be aware you have to pay room tax so budget for that. We had a room on the second floor classed as a superior room . Good :- Clean , bright, large bed , large TV with UK channels BBC1, ITV etc. Tea & coffee kettle , clean towels (you have to request to have them changed and your room isn't cleaned unless you ask ) The shower was over the bath so again be aware if you struggle with mobility i'm lead to believe rooms on floor 7 have walk in showers . Not so good :- Toilet seat was broken , lots of the plug sockets were broken and i had to move the kettle to beside my bed ( nothing major) my room was overlooking the main road and garage so work traffic started about 5:30 Breakfast :- enough to fill you up Eggs, cold meat, cheese , porridge, yoghurt , bread , juice , tea , coffee . BE WARNED you can not take any food from the restaurant and if you do you will be charged did not stop people doing it . Will fill your water bottle if you ask . Evening meal £13 PP soup , bread , large salad bar then a hot option , meat balls , fish balls Lasagne, boiled potatoes , different each night unlimited fizzy drinks , tea coffee , juice We found it really good value but not many people seemed to use it ? Happy Hour (Well 2 hrs !) Local Beer and red and white wine 4pm until 6pm worked out to about £5 a pint and same for the wine there's a little fridge next to the bar selling cans and sandwiches There's a garage and supermarket just over the road . Please be aware this hotel is used for school trips and 4 different schools arrived whilst we were there all the children and teachers were a credit to there schools well behaved and polite it just gets very busy in the bar area when 40 kids are being checked in and then ascending on the dinning room .Never heard any noise at night . Its about a slow 30 min walk from the hotel into town reception will call you a taxi if you need one 10 min drive £13 or the bus stop is just over the road . Would i stay here again yes would i choose a hotel in the centre yes (for mobility issues)

We arrived mid morning and we were able to put our luggage in a secure luggage room. When we did check in it was quick but did have to pay tourist tax which I didn’t realise but it wasn’t a problem. Our rooms were small with only 4 coat hangers per room, bathroom was compact but useable. Breakfast consisted of porridge which was very nice, hard boiled cold eggs, bread, rivita, cereal, yogurt, fruit and more. Buffett Eve meal was good value. We used the food court just a 2min walk from hotel which was good.

I went on this trip with school and To start off with the rooms and the restaurant looked nothing like the photos that are advertised and we were very disappointed with the room. When we entered our room we noticed they were extremely small and there were multiple things wrong. The bed frame was broken, the door for our bathroom didn’t close properly and was very stiff, the bathroom was also very small, and the light in there barely worked. There was also a weird smell in the room. The lampshades were very wobbly and the screws were coming out, And in a lot of rooms the windows led into the corridors. The tv also did not work and when I poured a glass of water from the sink in the bathroom it had bits in it. When we used the shower it was impossible to get the right temperature as the water was either scolding hot or freezing cold. There was also a Hole in the one dovet. When we left the rooms to go and eat I realised I had left our card in the room and when I went to the reception to ask for a new on the woman looked extremely annoyed and gave me the death stare. When trying the cards they did not always work and can easily lock you out of your room. The food was easily the worst food I have ever eaten. There wasn’t many options for food and we had the same options each night. The pasta was freezing cold and didn’t taste nice. The second night they offered some sort of breaded chicken however it was fully raw and pink. You can see in the photo below. When we got up to get a drink the dispenser gave us sparkling water instead of coke. The lady in there was also extremely rude as she yelled at someone for putting there plate in the wrong place. She also was moving tables that people were sat at and when they questioned it said “your not childeren” she also looked miserable. When we finally decided to go to sleep there were members of the public (a different school) running around, playing music, screaming and yelling inappropriate things. Overall I would not recommend this hotel as it is not a nice place to stay and is definitely not worth the money.

We stayed for 4 nights at this hotel, after reading reviews we were worried about how small the room were. They were small! But I wasn't there to stay in my room 😂 suitcases go under the bed. Would of liked tea/coffee facility. I asked for another pillow was given one straight away. Room was clean and everything we needed. Breakfast was basic but plenty of toast, fruit ,yogurt as well as cheese and meats. Lots of school trips going on, bus picks up right outside so perfect for excursions. Walking distance in to the town along the seafront which was beautiful. Food Hall down the road was brilliant lots to choose from and the supermarket down the road was great. Don't use the one opposite the hotel it was very expensive. We would definitely stay again 😁😁

This is marketed as a basic or budget type of hotel but is clean and comfortable. Stayed in a superior room which had tv, window and tea/coffee facilities. Staff very friendly and Hotel well situated near the sea and within a reasonable walking distance to Reykjavík centre. Would definitely recommend.

Great hotel with stunning views nearby - they have a mountain range right on their doorstep. Also the front of the hotel is considered to be a coach stop, so it makes transfers and tours that much easier to book onto! The staff of the hotel were friendly, knowledgeable and overall, pleasant. Breakfast was included in our price and consisted of simple continental breakfast items, juices and a coffee/tea station. It was perfect for us and even included traditional Icelandic skyr yoghurt! The rooms were neat, clean and while on the smaller side, it was perfect for a 3 night stay. We booked a triple room, which could be why it wasn't the biggest (though this was not an issue at all). Location-wise it was absolutely faultless. While outside of the hustle and bustle of the city, Hotel Cabin was only a short walk away from the main districts. Nearby we found the old recycled house (and a Viking grave), a couple of cute cafes and some of the larger supermarkets. It was only a 20 minute walk away from the main city area and if you walk along the coast, you can see some of the main attractions Reykjavik has to offer, such as the Sun Voyager sculpture, some small lighthouses and other assorted monuments and historical sights. There was so much to see and this hotel added the convenience of seeing them on the way, each day we walked into the city. We couldn't have asked for anything better! I'll be honest, I saw the reviews for this hotel before going and wasn't given the best impression of this hotel. However, I will say that you should ignore those reviews because not only is this hotel budget friendly, it's accessibility, staff and location add to the experience and made this such a great holiday for us. I will also add, there was an absolutely amazing member of the staff working the day we were leaving at 4am for our transfer. She went out of her way to contact our transfer company to check the coach was still on its way for us and made us feel safe and less anxious when it ended up being late. Unfortunately we didn't manage to get her name, but she is a testament to just how friendly and thoughtful the staff at this hotel are. We will certainly be going back to this hotel, and I have recommended it highly to anyone I know planning on visiting Reykjavik.
