the hostel has alright facilities, but there was so many things wrong. two times during our 4 night stay, the hostel made a mistake so someone walked in while we were sleeping because they were assigned our room by mistake even though the room was already full. this was such a bad experience and should never happen once let alone twice. the hostel didn’t apologize or anything, and there were also problems with the communication for us and for other guests staying there. not a good experience, I would recommend staying at Kex hostel downtown instead as the Dalur is also quite far from the city centre.

Clean, is the first word and a really pleasant surprise. We had all we needed, spatious showers, clean toilets, a well equiped kitchen and impecable linens in the bedroom. So a hostel to feel like home, confy and relaxed. We stayed only a couple of hours before going to the airport but it was the place we needed for a refresh and rest before travel back.

I can't express enough how awesome this place is!! A true gem among the lodgings in Iceland. Lovely nooks and crannies everywhere to be alone or socialize, clean, cleverly designed and decorated, eclectic, comfortable beds, kind staff, security is top notch, absolutely delicious homemade food at the Cafe, totally accessible (I'm wheelchair bound), eco friendly, affordable, lots of print resources available, great wifi, next door to an absolutely huge public pools complex, bus stops on your doorstop, and did I mention the most helpful staff? I'm enamoured with this place!

We stayed twice, once in a room with shared bath and the other with private bath. The shared bath experience for some reason was more comfortable than the private bath. The price for both was pretty high considering it is a hostel with all the hostel feel. The staff was excellent and very helpful though. Just don’t expect hostel pricing on anything. Beds were hard as a rock. Duvet did not cover the bed so it was like using a crib blanket to sleep under.

W ehave spent 2 nights at Dalur Hostel. What a great place, a hostel where the whole world passes in front of you simply spending some time at the reception! Travelling with kids we have loved the common kids area just in the center of the entrance, with a huge window where you can look after your kids while they play and you can relax sipping a tea. Located very close to the city center and provided of everything a traveller might need, from a fully furnished kitchen to a nice bar. Very recommended it

AWFUL. I couldn't have had a worse experience than staying here. To start off the customer service was HORRIFIC. The day we arrived at the dreaded hostel we were unpleasantly greeted by a dull and depressing atmosphere. Once we had got the room key we slowly entered the room which was a task in itself the amount of doors was like a maze. Having stayed in the room for a few hours we were called for supper. I think I rather would have starved than eaten this (see picture). Some may say"there are children in Africa starving" but this was hard to stomach even watching people eat it. After living off fibre 1 bars I wasn't even hungry. We arrived back after a busy, tiring day expecting to be greated by the thin mattress we slept on and the straw duvet we slumped up to the door of our room( not far from reception). I slowly reached for the keycard from my pocket and waved it over the door sensor expecting it to turn green. In my disgust it turned red and door was stubborn and refused to open. We ran back to reception hoping this would be resolved within minutes. We never got back in the room that night. NOT A SINGLE MEMEBER OF STAFF WAS ON THE PROPERTY. I was disgusted at this sight. After HOURS of waiting around with no clean clothes, no running water, no toiletries, no food we eventually had to trek out of the hostel at 1am into the open air and slept the night at another hotel. IT GETS WORSE. W arrived back hoping that the issues were going to be resolved. THEY WERE. But the attitude of the staff not answering their phone when they are getting paid for this. PURE LAZINESS. To finish this review off I would like to warn any person or creature to step foot near the hostel to run further and further away to avoid any long term diseases and PURE DISSAPOINTMENT AND A WASTE OF HARD EARNED MONEY.

Friendly staff and clean shared bathrooms made this 3 out of 5 instead of 2 out of 5. There were some not to serious negatives such as not perfect cleaning of the rooms but that is in my opinion acceptable given the for Iceland rather low price. Note however that there is no ladder for at least some of the bunk beds, I had to use the windowsill. I am tall and young but found it challenging.

Overall a nice hostel to stay at and you get what you pay for. Staff was friendly but a bit hard to find sometimes. Beds were comfy and the sheets were clean, didn’t mind putting them on myself but it’s good to know that you have to do it yourself. Room was pretty clean, very nice with a bathroom in the room. I did use slippers in the shower since the floor seemed a bit dirty. Lockers for valuable items were nice and fit everything I needed (camera, laptop, chargers). Kitchens were okay, I left food in the refrigerator and it didn’t get stolen which was very nice, only used the kettle to boil some water for my food. It is quite far to the city center, about 30 minutes to walk but I used public transportation my whole stay and it worked really well! The bus stop is right outside the door and it takes you downtown and to the harbour which was very nice. I took the bus to sky lagoon and BSI and even if there were a few changes there were no problems at all, would recommend it to save money instead of renting a car. My biggest complain is that the bed makes a lot of noise when someone is moving in the upper bunk, it was terrible and woke me up every morning. Liked the self check in and check out but would like more information and clarification that I didn’t actually need to talk to the staff (which I did since I wanted to be sure). I didn’t buy the breakfast and I’m quite happy with my decision since it didn’t seem like they offered a lot when I walked past it in the morning, but if you have the money and enjoy breakfast than it may be worth it.

After hours check in was easy and quick, we received the keybox code the day of our arrival and were able to get our keycard without any problems. There is a parking lot on the property which was convenient. Unfortunately, the rest of our stay was only mediocre. It is a 30 min walk/10 min drive to the city center. We booked because there was supposedly breakfast included, only to never see any staff or any information for times. The shower in our room dripped and the floor was wet all throughout our stay. The bathroom light started flickering like a horror movie our second day, we showered in the dark to avoid the premonition of being murdered. When we went out for the day staff entered our room and left the door UNLOCKED and OPEN until we returned at 9 pm. Luckily nothing was taken, but I felt as if the "privacy" of our PRIVATE room was violated. Would not stay here again.
