We stayed here for 2 nights earlier this month with my husband and son. The island is stunning...beautifully clear sea, white sand, picturesque palm trees and pretty sunsets. It's a very friendly and relaxing place to stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there, I would highly recommend it. We liked the accommodation- the huts on stilts were basic but... More

This is a great place to chill out . The cabins on stilts are basic but well situated practically on the beach , which has white sand , shady trees and beautiful sunsets. We really enjoyed all the snorkling trips , the coral was fantastic and lots of fish. Our children went exploring and some locals helped them pick and... More

I went to Mari Mari on a three day, two nights and four dives package. The island itself is beautiful and the water is crystal clear. The accommodation was one of the stilted bungalows. They are basic but clean and comfortable. The food from the restaurant was delicious! Some of the people staying at the same time as me complained... More

Firstly the boat ride to the island: it was rough, very rough. It was like being stuck on a fair ground ride you didn't like but couldn't get off. I have to say it was rather exciting though. I was holding on to the rails as we made the crossing to the island and felt like I was embarking on... More

Pulau Mantanani is absolutely beautiful. The two small local villages are absolutely fantastic, friendly people with whom you can easily have a small chat. But then Mari Mari... They cant really call themselves backpackers, as they overcharge you for absolutely everything. I've never paid so much for bad food, simple accommodation and really c'mon, even the snorkeling trips & kayak... More

I have to thank all the recent reviewers as I really expected the worst before arriving, and was pleasantly surprised. The rooms are what they are - , very basic, a bed and a clean bathroom. We are a 3 year old and 1 year old with us. Yes there was some rubbish in the water (fendi handbag, plastic bags)... More

This was a very disappointing experience. Although I am aware that this is hostel style accommodation and it wasn’t that expensive, I still expect the service and amenities to have a certain standard. We could not fault to transportation to the Island or the beautiful surroundings when we got there, but the general attitude of the staff, the oily tasteless... More

Firstly, it's an hour by boat and the 'kid' driving it drove with it only on full throttle. Whilst I would normally enjoy something like this, my spine didn't as the hundred or so jolts that occurred when the boat hit the waves was unbelievably painful....and I'm in good health and mountain bike all over regular. My girlfriends back was... More

The island is beautiful and it's ok to visit - although unfortunately with plastic waste around the beaches. However, we were not that pleased with Mari Mari Backpacker Lodge. Transportation there was good and organised, and we got the hut as promised, which was actually ok - but very basic. We had shared toilets/baths and they were really poor and... More

Mari mari backpackers is in a really beautiful location, but the location is marred by the terrible rubbish that is constantly in the water and washed up on the beach. The backpackers itself is fine, clean basic and lovely views. The food is pretty basic and not very well done. I would suggested taking fruit to the island, or else... More
