We spent a very nice Saturday in beautiful Stamford. Our room at the William Cecil was quirky but very nice. The staff were helpful and friendly. The bar is a nice place and has a good atmosphere, the service is good. We had booked a table in the restaurant. Our orders were taken, we were seated in nice surroundings. It then... More

Madam and I have been going past this hotel for years, it used to be The Lady Annes.... we saw that they are now dog friendly so thought we would pay a visit. It was fabulous. The food was top notch, we had the burger of the day and it was superb. The young waitress Maria looked after us and... More

This was our first family visit to the restaurant. We have tried several times to make last minute reservations but we have always been unlucky and have dined at the sister establishment - The Bulll and Swan - just down the road. We found the interior decoration of the lobby, bar and restaurant clean, tidy and interesting and thankfully far... More

This is a combined review of two stays. The first visit was not a complete success and our complaints (via the hotels review form we completed) lead to a complimentary visit. Overall there is a certain charm to the hotel with lots of nooks, crannies and corridors reflecting the various buildings that make up the hotel. Food was overall good... More

Nice hotel but in need of some TLC... I get the old, quaint, quirky theme but that doesn't preclude the requirement to maintain carpets and paintwork. Hotel literature states it was completely refurbished in 2011; that is hard to believe when looking at the condition of the walls and flooring. Bedroom was nice (No.19) in the hotel's Luxury category; dual... More

We recently stayed four nights at this unique and historic hotel located in Stamford before moving back to U.S.. The level of service at this hotel was fantastic and Michael and his staff were incredibly accommodating to our needs and to the needs of our cat. We enjoyed several meals at the hotel and the quality and presentation of the... More

We wanted 2 rooms for 1 night to attend a wedding held at the George. The George would only offer the rooms for 2 nights minimum (very short sighted considering how much they must have been making on the wedding). The William Cecil were very accommodating with no such rule applying (thank you for your sensible approach). We dropped our... More

Good value for money, paid £120 per night for two people, bed and full English breakfast.Situated in the High Street, close to the town centre, with its Quaint shops and narrow streets, and many churches. The historic Burghley House on the edge of town is worth a visit, even if it`s only to stroll in the vast parkland observing the... More

Hotel is a nice building attached to the Burgley Estate at the edge of lovely Stamford. Food pretty good. Room 24 was a decent double. Stay tarnished by some really odd and outdated attitude: breakfast staff member asked our room numbers. We both said 24 only to be quizzed: "just the one room?" I don't expect that sort of rubbish... I was very disappointed to read your review, and sincerely apologise for the fact you felt let down by a member of my team. Discrimination is simply not tolerated; your experience is in no way representative of a stay with us, or the high standard of service we pride ourselves on - nor would it have been the individual staff...
