After previous stays at the Grand Burstin and the Salisbury, both of which were unsatisfactory, the Best Western Clifton Hotel was a very pleasant surprise. Reassuringly old-fashioned, the hotel was spotlessly clean throughout. The staff were polite and very helpful. Breakfast was excellent and the views of the gardens made for a pleasant stay. I could not fault this hotel... More

Moved to this hotel after a very disappointing experience in another local hotel, and I was a like a breath of fresh air the staff were friendly and professional the room was great and the view overlooking the sea was fantastic, the bed was enormous and very comfortable, plenty of storage space and the decor fresh and very pleasant.

As a family of five, it is always a challenge getting a room that can accommodate us all. The hotel certainly did that. Right from the booking, the receptionist made sure she found a way around it. Our room had two very separate parts, a room with bunk beds, sink and storage, and another room with a very large double... More

Tired decor, bored/disinterested/rude staff, pokey lift, noisy floorboards - and the icing on the cake - you get locked out! Oh yes, folks, this may be your holiday and you may want to come and go as you please, but the staff & management at this hotel have different ideas; I came back at 2315 hrs after a gig at... More

OK first the bad bits, some of which may be goods bits, it's down to taste. The building is very old and rooms are connected by long up and down corridors. The two lifts I saw were little bigger than phone boxes, and yes some parts of the decor are a little tired. The good bits are that the hotel... More

We used this hotel before going through the channel tunnel to Holland, the room was warm, clean & tidy. The reception & bar staff were all very friendly & the bar snacks were of a good quality. The layout of the hotel is strange & very old fashioned with small corridors linking the bedrooms to the main staircases. I will... More

We were warmly welcomed at reception. Room was ready and very nice. Plenty of hot water. A minor heating problem was soon resolved. We ate in the hotel (bar menu) - very nice and the side issue of warm bread (not requested) was very good and a nice surprise. All in all - hotel very clean, staff very pleasant. Check... More

This old hotel is in good codition. We liked the heated towel rack for drying our hand laundry. There was free wifi that worked well. Free parking on the city street. There was a good sized flat screen tv that worked well. This was a great location for our visit to Dover Castle by automobile.

We did not book ahead only on day. Reception staff lovely. Not a lot of parking but staff helped with cases. They have a small lift. Gave us a room overlooking the seafront. Great view and surprisingly not noisy. Stayed 2 nights. Breakfast was very good as was dinner. Food good. Staff friendly and helpful. Enjoyable walks into town and... More
