There was water in the kettle cups heavy and thick and no glasses on the tray like you expect in an executive room .The tv was only small screen tv The only saving grace was the bathroom lovely shower and modern We spoke to reception staff when we left who were very nice they advised us to e mail they gave us e mail address but unfortunatley appears not to be in use

Absolute disgrace of a hotel and policy. I booked a room here as I was going to a gig in Halifax. So, bought a ticket and booked the hotel months ago. Got a cancellation out of the blue. It was decided to cancel all bookings and rent out the 39 rooms to illegal migrants. I could only book 5 miles out of the centre because everything was booked up. Absolute disgraceful way to treat customers. I really hope after this hotel is open back to the public, people remember how they treat good, honest customers. #absolutelyfumingmad

We had a one night stay on 23 June. The hotel is a little dated but spotlessly clean. Spacious room and bathroom. Comfortable bed and pillows. We had a few issues with noise outside the hotel but obviously this was in no way the hotel's fault. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. They did go above and beyond. A special mention to Emily who was on duty at breakfast this morning (which was superb)

Booked this hotel for an event 4 months in advance as a non cancellation. We booked here for the convenience of being in town and not having to rely on taxis. They cancelled on us 2 weeks prior to the event! Tried to book somewhere else in town but everywhere was full so had to use a Airbnb around 4 miles away. Be warned.

Noisy ( 4/5am woken on both nights with noise from the hotel basement- not street noise ) dirty room - filthy cushions and valance on the bed, cobwebs, dirty mug and glass. Disappointing breakfast. Staff trying their best - no management on site apparently- and obviously used to fielding the same complaints with platitudes but no action. Very dingy gloomy dark room (106).

There appears to be very little choice of hotel in Halifax but the Swan was recommended and from the outside it’s beautiful. Inside is dated and dusty. Spent two nights £60 per night no breakfast in a Superior double room. If this was a superior I’d hate to see a standard double! The furniture was dated and was wrought iron garden furniture. The headboard was broken so it was not attached to the wall so banged. Dust everywhere Patches on the carpet To top this off we were at the front directly in line with the village bar/club. The noise went on till the early hours. I except this is not the hotels fault but perhaps something they need to discuss with the club. This hotel could be so much more then it is!

Response from White Swan, General Manager at The White Swan Hotel

Dear Guest, Many thanks for taking the time to write your review. I am sorry to hear we did not meet your expectations on this occasion. You maybe aware the hotel is under new ownership and working on a refurbishment programme. Unfortunately as we are a town centre hotel, there is street noise which is out of our control. If you stay with us again request a room at the rear of the hotel. We hope to welcome you back in the near future.

We were attending a wedding at The Venue , Bowers Mill in Barkisland. We chose this hotel as it was good value, we needed 3 rooms and other hotel options were pricey. It’s in the centre of Halifax and parking is what’s available to the public I.e. really no hotel parking to be relied on but for us this was ok as we left our cars at The Venue and got taxis to and from the hotel, these were £17 for each trip. The hotel is tired in terms of decor. In its heyday it would have been quite special but for a budget stay it’s acceptable. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The night porter was welcoming , we didn’t arrive until after midnight. The staff on breakfast was lovely , smiley and greeted everyone warmly. The breakfast we had really good, yes no pork sausage , beef instead. I had 2 perfectly poached eggs on toast and a fab pot of tea! Our en suite had modern fittings but unfortunately the toilet cistern was faulty and trickled water constantly , we mentioned it on checking out and received a sincere apology. I have to say the bedding , towels and room were all spotless , very clean. Next morning we visited The Piece Hall which is a 5 minute walk away, well worth a visit. The hotel ordered the return taxi for us. If you are looking for a budget stay I would recommend.

The hotel is reasonably comfortable if dated. It's in the town centre so very convenient. The bed was very soft but I had a good night's sleep. There were some odd features, such as a phone socket in the bathroom. Didn't eat in the hotel so cannot comment on that.

I was a bit worried after reading some other reviews but I had no need to be the hotel was clean the lifts did work passed the first floor the room was comfortable and pretty much what you would expect from an older hotel. Yes the shower was over the bath but it was as powerful as any other shower and the hot water was instant. The staff were all very polite and helpful, the breakfast was made to order and I can’t remember the last time I had such a lovely breakfast were every element was piping hot. Tea, coffee toast and the usual cereal yogurt and fruit was also available. Overall a very pleasant stay and I would definitely stay here again. You get what you pay for and this was excellent value for money.
