I came on business so needed wi-fi in the room, however the wi-fi did not reach the room. The weather was cold and I was glad to have a double bed to myself because I got to cocoon myself into the duvet because it was really cold. The front door to the room requires some TLC, however inside it was... More

A recent trip for a valentines dinner left us feeling that our money would have been better spent elsewhere. The Resturant lacked atmosphere, it was tatty and cold. As it was a special occasion I would have expected at least at least a nicely laid table but it was minus a cloth , just a tatty wooden place mat, plastic... More

Whenever I was in the Grantham region I would stay at the Houblon in Oasby so that a couple of years back I would have ranked this hostelry as five stars. However since it changed ownership early in 2012 the feel, ambiance, and prices have changed; none of them for the better. Bedrooms desperately need refurbishing. Lunch and evening menus... More

Enjoyed a three course meal of genuine high quality. Proper English ales, good food and great service which cumulated in a friendly, relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The steak from the daily specials board was a delight! Whilst many of my friends had the daily pasta dish, or the burger which both received outstanding reviews! The landlord and manageress created a... More

It was a real pleasure to discover this lovely pub among small Lincolnshire hamlets. It was packed with friendly locals, had great choice of dishes; the food was fresh, delicious and creative, the service was good and the decor very typically English with its log fire, beams and old oak furniture. We had a fantastic time.

A proper local in every sense of the word, there is great food (the Salmon Gravadlax is superb) with a refreshingly innovative food menu with a comprehensive wine list. The staff are first-rate, both being tentative and friendly. All in all a little gem of a pub in the heart of Lincolnshire. Looking forward to going back again.

The Houblon is a breath of fresh air in a county not known for its gourmet credentials. Amongst the dozen times I have eaten here so far I have enjoyed great starters including tempura prawns, tuna crostini, goats cheese salad, spanish charcuterie and delicious mains including chargrilled chicken with white beans and pancetta, cuban burgers and crab linguine. The landlord... More

My wife and I have eaten here regularly since the landlord of the excellent Tally Ho nearby took control of the pub and also reccomended it to friends for accomodation. The food is excellent and better than anything within a 20 miles radius that we have sampled. Imaginative and creative menus, combined with a good wine list and friendly service.... More

We hadn't been to the Houblon for a year so had good expectations after reading local reviews and new ownership. We were in the restaurant but wish we'd booked for the bar as more atmosphere there. Restaurant is very brown! Wooden furniture, wooden mats and bowls, tired decor, cobwebs on wall lights, no flowers, paper napkins, table candles not lit,... More

I love this pub! I've eaten here a few times, and was interested to see how it was doing under the new management so went last week for an evening meal. It was really busy - we'd ordered a table in the bar simply because it's so atmospheric with the low lighting (and low beams!), and candles. The low ceilings... More

The Houblon Inn - A traditional country inn with a modern twist. WELCOME! Step into the idyllic setting of the 17th-century Houblon Inn and take a step back in time into one of Lincolnshire’s most traditional and snuggest of pubs. Nestling in the picturesque stone village of Oasby, the Houblon is surely the quintessential English country pub, replete with real ales, fine food, low beams and a huge open fire. Once seen and experienced, it lingers long in the memory and enjoys a devoted following from locals and visitors alike. New proprietor Ian Grant and his partner Linda are delighted to be breathing new life into such a beautiful place, so powerfully resonant of rural history and tradition. Renowned all over Lincolnshire for our food and ales – with Everard’s Tiger, Black Sheep and Timothy Taylor’s Landlord always available, alongside a different guest ale every week – our seasonal and eclectic menu is designed to appeal to a variety of tastes, with our ever-popular Lincolnshire sausage and mash with red wine gravy, warm chorizo-based house salad and supreme of chicken with asparagus and cream cheese mousse, happily appearing alongside fresh seafood, pork belly, sirloin steak, braised lamb, cheese soufflé, goat’s cheese tomato and red onion salad and our renowned roast joints which are the centrepiece of our Sunday lunches. Indulge yourself with our hand cut chips and homemade soups and breads and stay awhile to enjoy the ambiance of this most charming inn. The lovely oak-beamed restaurant adjacent to the bar – which can seat around 30 people – offers a perfect and memorable venue for small functions, meetings and special occasions and celebrations and has already happily accommodated many birthday, retirement and wedding celebrations and receptions. A pretty garden and boules court offers an attractive outdoor space which can be utilised alongside summer functions, offering comfortable wooden tables and chairs amidst a plethora of attractive flower beds. Four large attractive guest rooms – also featuring stone walls and oak beams – offer comfortable accommodation and make for the perfect break when combined with the real food and real ales which are the hallmark of the Houblon. Our beautiful hideaway inn may be one of Lincolnshire’s best-kept secrets. Let us share it with you. ... more   less
