We stayed for one night in late April for a wedding which was being held just down the road. We booked here because my daughter said it was number one in Barrow. It was nice, a grand Victorian building with a big car park. The rooms however were a let down. My wife and I are no longer spring chickens... More

Thank you to the guest for his feedback. The majority of our rooms are either new (built within the last 2 years) or newly decorated and re-furnished. We would welcome further comment from the guest regarding which room he stayed in so we can bear this in mind as we continue our rolling programme of refurbishment. The main hotel is... More

We booked this on the good reviews that everyone wrote and i suppose if we didnt have 2 children under 2 years the rooms would have been lovely, but the family room was in need of re-decorating and was on the 2nd floor thats 4 flights of very steep stairs to climb with a baby and bags !!! no lift... Just to clarify I am the General Manager responding (the guest was referring to a restaurant supervisor and the proprietor in her comments). I only liased briefly with the guest, offering a bed guard for one of the ladies small children at point of booking. Firstly, I do appreciate the guest's comments about the room requiring a re-fresh in line... More

I must admit, I wasn't planning on staying here, but my booking agency made a mistake and booked me in. I'm mightily glad they did. The Chetwynde is everything you could want. An excellent location, very reasonable prices, gorgeous rooms (especially the new rooms in the annex), friendly staff, lovely food. In the past when visiting Barrow I've stayed out... More

Visiting Barrow on business the Chetwynde Hotel is an ideal place to stay. My wife and I stayed in a standard double room. The room was clean and spacious. The breakfast was what I expected although the beans had been reheated several times. The town centre is a steady 25mins walk from the hotel.

Just returned from a 2 day stay at the Chetwynde for a family occasion and what a lovely hotel to have discovered in Barrow (my home town) and I will certainly stay again when visiting. We occupied 4 rooms, 2 in the main house and 2 in the new annex, all were excellent. Warm, comfortable, well equipped and quiet, I... More

My husband, child & I stayed at the Chetwynde 29 Mar for 2 nights. We cannot fault the hotel, it's a little gem, very quirky items dotted around. The food is outstanding, ate breakfast & dinner both days. We had a beautiful spacious room, extremely comfy 4 poster bed, with an extra bed for our child. Staff were lovely, no... More

myself, my husband and my two year old son have just returned from a two night stay at the chetwynde. What a lovely hotel, clean, warm and the staff very friendly and attentive. We stayed on the top floor in family room and it was a very good size with plenty of room for toddler to run around. The breakfast... More

The Chetwynde is a good hotel. I stayed for one night in a room in the main building rather than the annex. It was a big room with lots of period furniture: very comfortable and homely - no complaints. Staff were friendly and polite. Although a large and older building the hotel was warm and comfortable. I was meeting a... More

My husband, children and i had a lovely nights stay at the hotel, rooms were warm clean and comfortable. We also visited the south lakes animal park with the children which is only a 5 minute drive from the hotel. The food from the restaurant was very good, well above average. We would definitely stay here again.
