It's too quiet. There is no wifi at all and no TV in the building. It's literally in the middle of nowhere. Pool murky and uninviting. Horathapola is a magnificient old estate mansion. Its colonial style is so beautifully preserved, you feel set back in time from the moment you arrive! Horathapola certainly lived up to our expectations. It really was the most relaxing start to our holiday, and a wonderful introduction to Sri Lanka. The food was excellent. The trip to the local market and the tour of the estate were unexpected and enjoyable extras.....and we just loved the perfect tea and cake by the pool!

Exhausted and tired from 24 hours travelling this was the most beautiful and peaceful oasis it was possible to imagine. The welcome was engaging, the room had a quiet simple presence and the food was probably one of the best meals we had in Sri Lanka.
