When I searched a hotel in Sydney for two nights on our way frm Europe to New Zealand, my aim was to find a centrally located hotel frm which we could easily walk to the Opera House, the Botanic Gardens, the wharf.
On top of all that, Phillip Street is also at two minutes walk from the St James railway...

This hotel is part of the NSW Leagues Club.
There is licenced bars, restuarants and poker machines, TAB and other amenities within this complex.
The hotel does not offer a breakfast service.
They rely in the amenities of the Leagues Club. The food is basic and not really appetising.
However, the hotel has no control over this.
I would suggest...

Got booked in here for work as punishment for getting my travel forms in late! The lobby has a bad smell from the NSW Leagues Club which shares the premises. My room didn't smell but my colleague said hers did. Room was fine but very basic.

It's a budget hotel and you get exactly what you pay for ie. a small but clean room. Plus points are the excellent location (15 minutes walk to the harbour, 5 minutes to Hyde Park), the basic but friendly "Bistro" which does a nice breakfast, and complimentary access to the NSW Leagues Club (whatever that is) bar which serves affordable...

I believe hotel rates are high in Sydney, and this is a budget hotel. So we get what we've paid. The room was unbelievably small, but clean. The only facility was an internet cafe and a great value bar. This hotel was pack with tourists and the walls was not exactly soundproof. Just spent your time outside if you want...
