Perhaps naively, I expected Christchurch to be less damaged (and hurt) than it actually is, one year after the second earthquake struck. However, I didn't see the various pit props and damaged areas within the hotel as being problems, although I do think that it is poor to be advertising a pool when there is no hope of one being...

Stayed here one night late January in a group on a tour of New Zealand and have just written a letter to the tour company. This hotel is the worst I have been in for a long time. They are still advertising a swimming pool, which, when I enquired as to the opening hours was told it had been condemned. The hotel...

The Chateau on the Park is an upscale hotel directly across from the great central park in downtown Christchurch. It did suffer some damage from the recent earthquakes but they are maintaining a high level of service. The staff were friendly and efficient.

The hotel is still in repair from the earthquake but it seemed like business as usual. My 3rd floor room was fantastic. Comfortable bed, tea/coffee and cookies,...

Spent one night here in Dec, the day a couple of dream 5.5 quakes rolled through. When we arrived, the staff were shaken, but still tbere and working. The building is quake safe, as proved that day and on the two previous quakes, and the hourly aftershocks through the night paled away as we slept well in our comfy bed....

In our 3 weeks of traveling around New Zealand and staying in 10 different lodgings, this was the only one that felt old, shabby, and way overpriced. The front desk staff was neither friendly nor helpful. The service in the restaurant was slow and inattentive. There really is no lobby for sitting, and we found the rooms dark. We ended...
