We were given a warm welcome by John and Catherine the owners of this B and B. Our room was large and airy and bed very comfortable. The setting of Friends Hill lodge is beautiful and we enjoyed feeding the sheep with John. We will be staying here again on our next visit to the area.

I arrived after an extremely long 12hr flight and no luggage due to the airline loosing it. John & Cathleen were so helpful allowing me to use their computer. Cathleen then went on to make me a lovely meal and then even took me into town. As for the Friends Hill Lodge it was perfect, comfortable, clean and good food.... More

We had paid our 125 dollars for a luxury room which we thought was great but then as we got there they had put us in a standed room but we still had to paid for the luxury room. The owners had asked us what time we would like our breakfast and we had said 9am, later that night my... More

Two bookings for the same room came in at the same time. The guest was contacted immediately and advised that there was only a room with an adjacent bathroom available and he was given the opportunity to cancel. When he arrived he was once again asked if he was satisfied with the room and responded that he was. In the... More

A disappointing experience. Bed sheets not clean, toilet and bathroom not clean or tidy. Disgusting array of contents left in our bedside cabinet drawer. Towels of poor quality and some were stained or not clean. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room .John did make an attempt to fix the problem and offered us a discount and a bottle... More

We had been hit by the effects of winter illness, the decorators had not completed the room that was booked as they had staff with illness, my wife had been ill with asthma and our cleaner had headed away for the school holidays. I was left to do everything including the cleaning. I don’t normally do the cleaning and clearly... More

We stayed for one night on the last day of our South Island tour and were very happy with our experience. The Friends Hill lodge is a few k's out of Dunedin but it is a lovely location and close to the motorway. We arrived a couple of hours earlier than expected and were welcomed warmly which was lovely after... More

We often stay in B and Bs, but this was the oddest experience we've had! Arrived and was taken straight to our room and the door closed on us. No introductions or helpful instructions on where anything was such as a guest lounge, the spa, tea, coffee etc. We were left feeling like perhaps we weren't allowed out of our... More

After three weeks staying in satisfactory hotels, motels and B&Bs, this was the pits. The bed sheets had not been ironed, which made us suspect they had not been laundered, the shower cubicle was dirty, there was what looked like bird muck on the carpet and our room was freezing during the night. The evening meal was chicken skin and... More

These people arrived after several days of disrupted travel, in a stressed and exhausted state. We don't do meals other than breakfast and they were offered the option of being driven to a restaurant, other food outlet or sharing a meal with us. They choose to eat with us. The teenagers complained of were guests who behaved like teenagers. There... More
