What a joy it was to find La Laconda del Parco, a gem of a bed and breakfast. Located in Fontecchio, Fontecchio is a medieval mountain-top town overlooking the Aterno River, 25 kilometers south-east of L’Aquila. La Laconda is situated near its famous medieval clock tower and not far from the city square and its fountain dating back to the 13th century. Paolo and Guiliana were terrific hosts. We spent 3 days enjoying the beauty and serenity of the surroundings. For those in need of contact with the outside world, the top-floor terrace was a great place to download our emails using our portable Wifi. I hope we will return some day!

If you plan a trip to central Italy, wishing to explore the national parks: Gran Sasso, Abruzzo, or Majella, we strongly recommend Locanda del Parco in Fontecchio as your base. The place is gently renovated, with exquisite taste and respect for the old building, located in the heart of the medieval center of Fontecchio. There is charm and atmosphere and a good comfort, which made us wish that our stay was longer than 5 days. On top of it all, Guiliana and Paulo are perfect hosts, making you feel at home away from home. There is freshly baked Italian cakes and much more for breakfast, and if you are short of tour suggestions, - just ask Paulo. We followed all his suggestions and were never disappointed. The small terrace is a very cosy place for a sun downer before dinner in a nearby restaurant. Mario's down on the town square can be recommended. Annelise & Frode, Denmark…

You will not find a more habitable place to rest your head whilst touring Italy. The hosts were friendly. The establishment is spotlessly clean. The food is magnificent. The scenery and location of La Locanda del Parco is magnificent. I can only add one superlative to my review.....SUPERB.

This wonderful B& B is superbly located in a medieval town center of Fontecchio. What a pleasure to be here! Rooms are spacey. Bathrooms are very clean and tidy notwithstanding the fact that you are housed in a medieval building. The warm welcome you get from the hosts is the cherry on the pie. Follow Paolo’s advice for restaurants and places to visit in the neighborhood.

Stayed for two nights in this unspoilt part of Italy. If you're looking for a genuinely picturesque village in an incredible setting, Fontecchio is it! The bedroom was charming, spacious and clean with a spectacular view. Giulianna baked fresh cake and pastries for every breakfast and nothing was too much for Paolo who is full of great ideas for activities in the area. We were there mid-May but it hadn't stopped raining yet (summer late this year) so we missed the spectacular flower show that the park usually puts on, but there were still enough flowers and beautiful scenery to make us happy we'd taken the trip! A magical experience...

Good to see several very positive reviews in Italian - now one in English. We stayed 3 nights at the Locanda del Parco in the middle of August. The building has been lovingly restored and our lovely room, with a view over the Sirentina National Park, was clean, comfortable and well equipped. But the main feature of our visit was the warm welcome offered by Paolo and Guilia who couldn't do enough to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. They gave us hints for trips, booked restaurants and visits and became instant friends. The smell of Guilia's baking in the afternoons was wonderful and the results when we got to try them at breakfast were outstanding, particularly the biscotti. Breakfast round the table with the other guests made an enjoyable start to the day. After a few very hot weeks in the Marche we found the temperatures a few degrees lower and therefore pleasant. Fontecchio is a lovely little village and in August there seemed to be an event of some kind every day. There are some good restaurants (notably La Fontana) and a busy bar in the main square where we were made very welcome. In the old town there is an interesting tower with Italy's oldest (?) working clock. All of this in easy walking distance. In terms of excursions we particularly enjoyed the trip to the Pagliara, the village where the farmers took their animals to graze in the summer, and to the high mountain plain where we lunched in Rocca di Mezzo. We also saw the roe deer sanctuary and the Grotte di Stiffe so there was plenty to do…
