We decided to take a trip to Akaroa for the day and stopped off at the Grand for lunch. Always a please. The decor needs an update but the staff friendly and the food great. Have had a few meals and a few late nights here over the years and will always come back.

We enjoyed 3 great meals tonight however felt that the pub lacked ambience to really make it a hit. Small enclosed fire near pool table meant that you couldn't sit around it. This old hotel has a nice ambiance and has been well maintained. Some cracks in the exterior are a reminder that quakes affect this region. A spacious clean bathroom and huge bed were a pleasant improvement on what is typical of pubs of this vintage. A bit overpriced at $130 but not out of step with the Christchurch area.
