On our return from San Ignacio we wanted to break up the trip and so stopped at Monkey Bay along the Western Highway between Belmopan and Belize City (minutes from Belize Zoo). We are so glad we did. The Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary typically hosts student groups from colleges and universities who come to study ecology and biology and so... More

We love Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary! Had booked for 2 nights but stayed for a week and planning a trip next year. You'll feel immediately welcome and comfortable. Staff are exceptional in hospitality, skill, knowledge, and the food is outstanding! A strong sense of community makes it easy to connect with people and share experiences. Guides (excellent) are accessible on... More

This is not for a resort person or someone who wants to be near the ocean. As a base for somoene who is going to explore nearby for a couple of days it is perfect. The enviroment with staff as well as other guests is great. Real sense of community. Prices are very reasonable espescially with food. You get to... More

There is a big speculation near the river, a lot of bulldozer are digging in the reserve. Probably for this reason we havent seen any animals, only a lot of mosquitos. At the reception doesn't explain nothing of the reserve. The lodge is ok if you use it as base to visit other places. The food is good.

We took a taxi from the airport to the Belize City bus station and then a bus right to Monkey Bay. It was the perfect place to land and catch up on sleep after an overnight flight. The staff were extremely helpful. The food was delicious. We volunteered at a school so we didn't check out their wildlife options. The... More

The lodgings are immaculate and the food was great! The hospitality was amazing! The staff more than accommodating! They offer educational guided tours to the caves, canoeing down the Sibun River gawking at the wildlife, tromping through the savannah and more for the average tourist and educational/internship programs for international students. If you are looking for a stimulating, educational experience...you... More

Monkey Bay is situated in the Mayan mountains of the Belizian pine forests. Located near Carocol (Mayan Ruins) this wild life sanctuary protects many of Belize's prized icons such as the Howler Monkey, Jaguar, and tapir. The food is amazing at the sanctuary and is buffet style dinning. The sanctuary is located near "Big Rock falls" which is a 120... More

Monkey Bay was fantastic from the moment they arranged to pick myself and my University Group up from the airport. The vehicle that pulled up was the coolest old school bus that had been decorated with a huge array of all things Belizean. Our stay at Monkey Bay was fantastic, every opportunity was given to us to see as much... More

We stayed at Monkey Bay for only 1 night but were still blown over by the hospitality. The grounds are nice and dotted with hammocks. We saw golden-fronted woodpeckers, parrots, yellow-breasted chats, and orioles before we'd even had breakfast! The rooms were clean and good value and the communal food was really good. For us, what made this place so... More
