We had the wonderful experience of staying with Raven and Mark on April 19th and 20th, 2013. The grounds and view are second to none! The house is nestled in a jungle of beautiful ferns, palm trees and flowers. You will see, hear and smell God's beautiful creation at this B and B. We stayed in the private Hawaiian suite... More

Inn Kaimu/Makuele Lodge is simply paradise. We stayed in the Hawaiian Suite, beautifully and eclectically furnished, with an extremely comfortable bed. The outdoor bathroom was very private, especially the shower in the garden. Innkeeper Raven Slaughter is a gracious and accommodating host. Her gardens are simply beautiful, and she's an excellent cook. The garden opens to a walkway down to... More

We stayed here with two teenage girls, and everybody loved it. The house is simple, bohemian, and perfect. There is a nice deck overlooking the backyard and ocean. The backyard leads to a lava ledge over crashing surf onto a black sand beach. There is a fire pit and bench out back to enjoy as well. Raven is a warm... More

It took a while to find this unique B & B, as it is an older building, tucked inside thick rainforest vegetation at one end, with its own black lava rock and black sand beach on the other end of the property. One can not access the water from this beach, which is perched many feet above the water, but... More

I visited Big Island over the Thanksgiving break with three of my friends and we stayed at Ma'ukele lodge. Raven has a very artistic touch to her furnishing and the Hawaiian suite is a lovely, vibrant room to be in. The out-door bathrooms are also very interesting. The delicious breakfast each day, served on the porch, overlooking the garden and... More

Raven is the most conscientious innkeeper and provides a great atmosphere. It is a destination worth seeing and enjoying. I am looking forward to another stay on the big island.

We spent one week here... we could not have imagined anything better -- it was absolutely wonderful! We stayed in the Hawaiian Suite, which was a very spacious room with a fantastic Victorian-style bed. We were "late" for breakfast just about every morning because we slept so well... (not that you can be "late" for breakfast... it happens whenever you... More

My husband, two boys ages 5 and 7, and mother wanted a place to stay near the volcano park and Kapoho tide pools. ThisB&B was the perfect solution. The inn is typical of the homes in the area and is older but has lots of character and the oceanfront location is amazing. The main room would have been large enough... More

My husband and I stayed at the Ma'ukele Lodge for three days and absolutely loved it! Raven is a wonderful host - friendly, kind and caring. We met several of her friends (including a trained botanist!) and the experience could not have been better. The idea of the outdoor bathroom takes some getting used to but in practice, it's wonderful... More
