We have stayed in many lodges and camps in East Africa and Southern Africa and this is certainly one of the more luxurious. The team looking after us were very friendly and the food was excellent. Our guide was good but I have had better and he was a little awkward and repetitive (we are regular safari goers so pointing out every antelope gets a little tedious). I am note sure if the heavy rains made him cautious but he was very reluctant to go off-road which detracted from the animal viewing experience. We have often been on safari during green season but have never before experienced such caution. The tents are very comfortable but remember it is camping so lighting is poor, showers are more rudimentary (but still perfectly adequate), no WiFi and a lot of bugs etc. My overall feeling was that is was good but a little overpriced for what it was but ultimately you are paying for the privacy of your own camp. The one largest disappointment was I was expecting to see animals near the camp - after all its all about being closer to them - but in three days only saw one Impala in the distance. The location of the camp has a lot of high grass and so few animals came near and the Sabora Lodge has far more to see nearby. Overall I have given it a good score because it’s a good place and very comfortable but I would not return - Singita charges a premium so everything has to be perfect. We also stayed at Serengeti House so have written a separate review. I would also make a general point that dealing with Singita during booking can be quite frustrating and not always either the friendliest or the most efficient. I get a sense that they deal with agents of their wealthy customers rather than independent customers and we were not a priority (our flight was full of US agents being very warmly looked after by a Singita rep whilst our request to see a Sabora Tent for future returns was turned down even though we are already returning customers and had travelled from the camp to see Sabora after they said we could see a room - I would call it simply rude).

Amazing! Singita really does know how to make one feel completely at ease in the bush! Thank you all who hosted us we had such a fantastic stay and we will be back! Our guide was excellent and acted as camp manager. The attention to detail was so excellent! The food was superb - thanks, chef! The wildlife sightings were incredible, and one can see the conservation effort bearing fruit! We will be back, and we will be recommending Singita explore to our guests! The only negative was the quality of the game drive vehicle, but I believe new ones are on the way soon.

Dear brandtsafaris, Thank you so much for your amazing review. We are so delighted to hear that we could make your visit fantastic! Since your stay with us in November we have invested in brand new land cruisers - each one has a portable fridge inside. This was more than an experience of a lifetime. Honestly the best holiday we have ever had and nothing compares (and we've been on many safaris over the years). Everything was perfect; from complete isolation from other guests - you have the whole camp to yourself, to exceptional service, food and private game drives in a less busy part of the Singita Serengeti park. Highly recommend.

For experienced luxury safari-goers looking for a more authentic bush experience - without sacrificing any of the luxury - this is the place for you. My spouse and I booked one of these camps for just the 2 of us in August 2016. Lazarus, the manager of the Explore program filled-in as our guide at the last moment when our favorite guide in East Africa, Edward K., was called away for a family emergency. The camp has all of the amenities you'd expect of Singita. What makes Explore so special is the sense of remoteness - beyond the camp there is only open plain - we didn't see any other safari vehicles during our stay. There were a couple of downsides: 1. The tents were extremely hot during the day. 2. We received quite a few Tsetse fly bites while in the bush. Be sure to check out online information on the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) websites before visiting parts of Tanzania where Tsetse fly are found.

We spent 9 nights with Singita in the Serengeti and the middle three nights we spent at the Explore camp. There are several explore camps and we were at the Marula camp. This is a small camp for smaller groups. The location is beautiful. You really feel you are part of nature. The plains before the camp were crowded with wildebeests, zebras, buffalos and more. At night you hear the beasts walking and grazing next to your tent. The tents are beautiful. They are basic and luxurious at the same time. Our guide and manager of the camp was Lazarus. We had the best game drives with him. He showed us lions, leopards, cheetahs and lots of more. He chooses the best locations for the vehicle so you can enjoy the best angles and view the game greatly. The game drives were dynamic and adventurous. Most of the times we did not see any other vehicles, so it felt as if we were the only ones in this part of the park. The team of Explore is great. You really feel part of a family during the time you are there. The food was amazing. It's unbelievable they can cook these delicious meals in the middle of nowhere. The quality is very high! We enjoyed every meal. One time we had lunch during our game drive in the middle of the bush. The food and the experience were great! We had a great time and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I would highly recommend this and I would like to thank Lazarus and the whole team for this amazing experience!

We stayed at the Explorer Camp in June for 4 nights and the experience was truly amazing. The camp itself is devastatingly stylish and the tents are beyond luxurious. The guiding standard is exceptional and game viewing by my standards was also exceptional. However, it was the staff from our host, Julian and our wonderful guide, Anthony to the rest of the crew that made this stay such a memorable experience.

We are seasoned safari and wildlife travelers that have been on 25 plus wildlife safari expeditions, with 15 alone in Africa with several private vehicle/guided. Our recent trip in September for 6 nights in the Grumeti Reserve at Singita Explorer Camp exceeded all expectations and the vastness combined with the seclusion of the private 350,000 acre reserve is unrivaled by anything we have experienced in Africa. The highly qualified staff ensured Singita really is a place of miracles by paying attention to every detail, regardless of how minor, and delivered genuine hospitality with sincerity unrivaled by anything we have experienced anywhere other than Singita Pamushana or on privately booked Specialized Safaris. The wildlife experience was fantastic and is for all intentions the same as going to the Serengeti or Masai Mara, but…without the crowds and chaos, especially since Singita Grumeti only has 80-90 beds locate on the whole 350,000 acre reserve at strategically located tented camps and lodges, each ranging in size from 6 to 30 or so guest. So, there is something for everyone and when you go you will leave with love in your heart for the Grumeti and a smile on your face whenever you think of the wonderful people that will be dedicated to making miracles come true just for you while you are in their care.

This is my second trip to Grumeti reserve but my first time staying in the mobile tented camp at Lions Rock. The panoramic view that opens up in front of you every morning you wake up to have breakfast is simply breathtaking. On our second day, a mixed herd of zebras and wildebeests came to graze in the open plains in front of the camp, as if putting on a show for us. I cannot emphasize how impressed I was with the quality of food served at this camp. I have eaten at other lodges in the Grumeti reserve on my last trip three years ago, so I knew food would be good, but at the mobile camp virtually everything is cooked on a BBQ, yet there are surprises at every meal. They even baked special muffins for our horses, which looked good enough for people to eat! Service is very personal and the staff always knew when to appear and when to leave you alone. At night there are guards to escort you from dining tent back to your own tent (with ensuite bathroom complete with flushing toilet), and although there are no telephone lines there is a whistle in the tent to blow on in case of emergency. My friend and I felt very safe and protected the entire time, even when we can hear the lions outside at night not too far from the tent. If you love nature, you'll love this location in the Grumeti reserve.

All I can say is "omigod!" This camp was perfect in every way. Kudos to the camp manager and every single staff member who made our trip so special, but especially to tour guide Alfred, who was beyond wonderful: informative, funny, congenial. He made an already perfect big-spluge vacation totally memorable. I'm a travel writer by profession and I've been on a lot of trips and stayed in a lot of places and nothing has ever been better than this. I'm already saving up to go back. Do I need to say more than that?
