This is a review for both the Viethouse in Hanoi and the Viethouse Lodge in Halong Bay (Tuan Chau Island) Firstly, my partner and I have been traveling through South East Asia for the past 4.5 months and both these guesthouses/hotels were amazing. Here are the reasons why: The owners/hosts at both locations (Caroline, Ly and his wife) were so welcoming... My girlfriend and I stayed in Viethouse Lodge for 2 nights on 4 and 5 April, 2013, before boarding a cruise around Halong Bay, and our experience was a world away from some of the recent reviews on here. From the moment I contacted the owner to reserve our 2 night stay, I was looked after completely. The stay in... More

Our stay at the lodge was unfortunately not that great. The room (including the bed linen) was dirty and the bathroom is a bit of a joke. There is nothing to do on the Island of Tuan Chau so you are forced to eat and stay at the lodge. The food is not bad but it is pricy. The staff... More

We were sent to stay here on what was supposed to be our first night on a Paradise Cruise ship after the Halong Bay Port Authority forced all the cruise ships in for the night because of a storm. We were told this was a five-star hotel (with a five-star price of $95/night) but we were extremely disappointed and disgusted.... More

The lodge is very agreeable, stylish architecture and decoration with comfortable rooms although the bathroom is somewhat spartan and the TV only shows Viet channels with even there a very weak signal (I booked luxury). The owners couple are most helpful and attentive - they helped in organising a most pleasant day trip by motorbike to nearby Cat Ba island... More

We did stay at the Viethouse Lodge during our 3 weeks trip through Vietnam for two nights. The island is ok, we were a bit disappointed by the atmosphere of the surrounding (a lot of unfinished construction going on, basically no other opportunity to go out and eat than the Viethouse Lodge). The owners of the Lodge were very helpful... More

Viethouselodge is the ideal homebase to spend your time in Ha Long Bay! German host Heiko and his German/Vietnamese wife Ly have created a clean, cosy, comfortable and warm lodge in which we relaxed from chaotic Hanoi. They went the extra mile providing me with medicine when I had stomach flu (caused by some food in Hanoi) and accompanied another... More

For a few years now have I been a guest and "ambassador" for the Lodge. Business sees me travelling to Vietnam on a regular basis and I always try to squeeze in at least a couple of days to visit Halong for the specific purpose to unwind at Viethouse! The so well praised owners Heiko and Ly truly are an... More

Having a front office manager who is proud of her inability to speak the local language and not enamored of being in Halong Bay is not a good start to a travel experience . Neither is having to carry your own luggage to your room up and down steps after an operation and when you obviously look above 60 .... More

The Viethouse Lodge is nice. It is comfortable, spacious and it has an amazing pool that lights up at night. The front rooms overlook the pool, so if you have kids you can watch them from your room. The beds are comfortable and have mosquito nets. The dinner and lunches are amazing, especially the Viethouse Lodge Special Spring Rolls. The... More
