The receptionist can speak little English, but is fluent in Mandarin Chinese (which I'm glad I can speak). The rooms are big enough for the stay. We booked three rooms and each has its own problems. Our refrigerator wasn't working, the other room's air conditioning was not working properly, and the other had very poor drainage. Our bathtub even has some cracks on it. We called the hotel staff and had a hard time communicating but managed to get some complains off.
We didn't have complimentary breakfast, but it was US$3.00 per person, so we thought to just avail it. The breakfast is located on the rooftop which gave us a view of around the place. Menu is very limited but enough to fill our hungry stomachs. The menu we had consisted of: sunny side up egg, omelette, pancake, bacon, sausage, pork with grated ginger, bread, fruits, and coffee and juice. Service is ok.
Tuk-tuks are readily available when you leave the hotel.
The rooms are really clean with good wifi, fridge, air-con, tv and nice bathrooms with plenty of hot water. The hotel itself is 5 star in its category and the staff have a good level of English and are friendly. The only reason I deducted a star is because of the restaurant. It is located on the 8th floor with a nice view of the city but both the food and the service were terrible. Given the standard of the rest of the hotel I hope they improve this aspect but doubt it!
We would definitely stay again for the rooms and the value.
Upon arrival the staff at reception seemed friendly enough. The first point to note though, not fault of the hotel but worth keeping in mind, the location is awful. The hotel is far away from any restaurants, attractions, bars etc. Book somewhere by the river side. The area was very grimy & felt unsafe. As two girls travelling about is south east asia we had felt very safe elsewhere and safe when we traveled other places in Cambodia, but the streets nearby were dark & you really wouldn't risk walking about even in daylight. Some people loitering outside the hotel making derogatory comments on our arrival - didn't set a good tone!
The hotel itself was very standard. Beds hard, tea/coffee making facilities & widescreen tv were meant to be included in our room. In reality, no facilities were there & there was an outdated tv. The bathroom kept emitting a strange smell and was not kept very clean by the hotel. In need of a major refurbish. The place is probably about worth what you pay...however factor in the terrible customer service and I wouldn't even stay here for free.
On our last night we arranged a tuk-tuk journey to a nearby restaurant I found on tripadvisor. The receptionist vouched for a tuk-tuk driver outside & told us the driver knew where to take us. After 15 mins in the tuk-tuk we knew something was wrong. The driver didn't have a clue where to take us. Eventually he was driving back and forth down a long street, seemingly asking random strangers for directions. We shown him the restaurant address again, explaining multiple ways he was in the wrong street. He laughed and proceeded to go up and down this street a further 5 mins looking for this restaurant, trying to drop us at other random places which were clearly not the restaurant we were looking for and laughing at us. Tired of him going on a seemingly endless and aimless journey we decided to cut our losses and asked to go back to the hotel about 10+ times. He heard us clearly but insisted on ignoring us and continued to drive. After way too many requests he finally listened to us. He kept laughing and waving his hand up at us. It sounds overly dramatic but at night in a new city this was unnerving as he wouldn't even take us to the hotel at our request & we didn't know if he would stop. Eventually we get back to the hotel. We explained our problem to the hotel, they offer no apology. By this time we've wasted 40 mins in a tuk-tuk going nowhere & its too late!
I also spoke with a woman on reception and asked her if she could please contact a coach company I had arranged a journey with. I asked if she could confirm the address we need to go to in order to get our coach. She telephoned and said, they will be here 8:00. I asked, 'can I have the address please?' She said 'no, they will be here 8:00am'. I asked again, 'are you sure they will come to pick us up?'. She said 'yes'. I asked again to confirm, 'they will pick us up here at 8:00am?' 'yes' she said, I asked 'we don't have to go to them, they will definitely come to us?' 'yes I have arranged this with them'. After multiple assurances I thought no more.
The next morning we went to breakfast early at 7:00am to leave us plenty of time for our supposed 8:00am pick up. There was no food out , no explanation offered, so we went to the balcony restaurant, they tried to charge us for breakfast even though its included in our rate, despite me explaining there was no food out when we looked earlier (breakfast served 6:30am onwards so it should have been there). We eventually order. Food takes ages, comes out at 7:25 so this is cutting it fine! We don't get to eat it anyway because after it arrives about 7:30am a waitress informs us we have a taxi waiting downstairs, not a coach but a taxi! We literally run from the table and to our room, grab our bags and go downstairs, we would have take about 2-3 mins in all. We arrive downstairs and the receptionist staff say the taxi has already left. I am in disbelief and explain I was informed that the receptionist liaised with the coach company to arrange the coach to come to us and there was no mention that we were to take a taxi to the coach station. Further to this, he obviously didn't try to keep this taxi for us and there was no apology. I explained what the lady receptionist told me the previous day and he offered no understanding, insisting I was at fault even though he wasn't even there when the conversation took place. We were about to miss our coach & we were not happy. He started laughing at me and my friend when we said we were very disappointed by this mix up by reception. Eventually he got a tuk-tuk for us. On getting in the tuk-tuk - rushing desperately, the staff and fellow tuk-tuk drivers thought the situation was hilarious and made no effort to hide how amused they were, it just felt really patronizing and derogative and left a bitter taste of our time in Phnom Penh.
No empathy, poor communication and service here. Do not visit here.
The staff were great, and very helpful! I had breakfast on the roof every morning, and the waiter was so nice and helpful. The front desk desk staff were also very helpful any time I needed them
$22 a night with breakfast. Arrived from Battambang and took tuk tuk to it.
Decent hotel, little way out $3dollars into town
Roof terrace where you can have breakfast, eggs, toast, coffee.
Staff really friendly and helpful.
As it was Chinese New Year gave us $1 drinks token for good luck.
The staff was helpful and the rooms good and well equipped A good breakfast buffet was included in the price and is served at the rooftop restaurant which also is a good place to have a sundowner beer. The only disadvantage might be the location which is about 10-15 minutes away by tuk-tuk (the hotel have their own)from the river promenade near the Royal Palace and the toursit belt .On the other hand no nightime disurbances from traffic or Karaoke etc and It was just a few minutes away from where the Samco bus from Saigon arrives(their mai stop.). They have free internet and computers available for same i the lobby area.
