The Shepherd Hotel is a decent place in central Amman - the rates are reasonable, and while, the hotel is older and somewhat run down (chipped tiles in the bathroom, older carpet, telephone not working), the owners (Abu George) are very friendly, and very helpful. I would not hesitate to stay there again. The hotel was also quite noisy (street... More

I stayed here in December when the hotel was not very busy. On the positive side, the rooms were clean if a little bit faded, and the hotel is convenient for the centre of Amman. At that time of the year the cost was quite reasonable. However, there are several reasons why I wouldn't stay here again. There was no... More

Very surly people at reception all the time. Very little hot water-if any. Bad temperature control: While we were here the temperature varied greatly. The night we arrived it was really hot and the air-conditioning didn't work. Subsequently it was cold and we couldn't get warm enough. The only positive thing I have to say about this hotel is that... More

We stayed here for a night in July. We booked 3 rooms. We were promised air condition and a certain price. The air condition was in only 1 of the 3 rooms. When we called to ask about the problem or spoke to them in person, there was no apology and no initiative to move us to a room with... More

We stay in this hotel 2 different nights for our Egypt trip. This was the worst hotel we have ever stay at and we do travel pretty frequently. The rooms were big but very old. You can not even shut the bathroom doors. The TVs were not working for both nights we were there (we were in different rooms since... More

Shepherd hotel failed to honour airport collection. The room was freezing as was the bathroom. Only a small fan heater provided. Mini bar empty and had been kicked in. Tepid water (in February). Dreadful food and unhelpful staff.Expensive at £50 for a double. The Rough Guide should revisit smartly to reassess.

When searching for Amman hotels, we found most of them very expensive. We thought we did well in booking into the Shepherd for 51JD, taxes in. To begin with, the hotel is in a good area close to restaurants and a few shops. A cab ride to the Roman theatre was less than 2JD. But that is the only positive... More

This was a nice enough hotel - decent breakfast, nice big rooms and staff friendly, but the disco was v v noisy! Seemed to go on well into the night and if it had not been for earplugs, wouldn't have got much sleep! It had a nice bar, however the night we tried to go, we were told there was... More

Stayed here for one night after driving past looking for somewhere in Jebel Amman that wasn't too expensive. Decent enough for what you pay and the rooms are fine for a short stay. Sometimes you get what you pay for in Amman, sometimes you don't. This place is good value overall, but staying there on a Friday night was a... More
