I've heard many good things about this hotel.....but unfortunately did not experienced it. The rooms....dark, noisy air conditioner, musty smell, stained towels, and torn bedsheets. The air conditioner also started spitting out freon on to the bed and curtains. When I contacted the receptionist, they sent someone up who just wiped the air conditioner on the outside and informed us... More

my parents always stayed at this hotel whenever they visit this city. so I decided to do the same. my luck. Just change the owner few days before my arrival with my family to Yangon. no more massage center, no more help you to book a flight to another city in Myanmar and there are lots of "no more". As... I stayed at the City Star Hotel in 2002 and 2005. The price then was $25 / $30. When we booked this time the price we were told was $80, when we arrived 6 weeks later they asked for $95 ( we settled for $80 in the end). The location just 5 mins from Sule Pagoda and behind City Hall... More

We stayed twice in this hotel during our four weeks in Burma and had a few unpleasant surprises. The first time, we walked in when we needed one more night in the city than planned but could not stay at the hotel we had spent the first two nights in because the rooms there were all taken by a tour... Yangon's hotels are all overbooked and bursting at the seams in the current frenzy of interest since Burma's reforms began, so I ended up paying $60 a night to stay at the City Star. The location is great - the hotel is beside City Hall, and is close to the Strand and the Independence Memorial. The Sule pagoda is a... More

Booked this hotel because of the room rate, location and free wifi. But it was very disappointing that even though they claimed to have wifi, there is totally no wifi access from our room. We called up the customer service and they told us that we might have access from late evening. We waited till 7p.m and still no access.... More

I had the "executive suite" what ever that means, which was two rooms with a great view on the back of the city hall and the Sule pagoda. Very easy access to shops and the downtown businesses. I will probably be back there next time I visit the city.

Very convenient location in the compact downtown of Yangon. Nice places around to eat and shop. Nice rooms, helpful staff. Inconvenient lighting in bathrooms, hard to shave. Bathroom condition in general not too good but tentatively tolerable. Breakfasts - definitely bad, and their restaurant in general is not even close to satisfactory (even by the relatively low standards of Myanmar).... More
