Nestled against a wooded thicket and surrounded by savannah, Mara West provides nature lovers with luxury accommodations while experiencing the sights and sounds of an unforgettable African safari. Luxury tents are perched in secluded spots on an escarpment edge overlooking the vast plains of the Masai Mara Game Reserve giving tremendous views and a sense of private exclusion. Mara West is an American owned and managed private safari camp providing high quality service with beautifully designed, comfortable accommodations.
This was my second visit. The staff is some of the best. They take time to know what you like and need. The Aho family has created a wonderful place to stay and give they you the oppotuity to serve the locals by volunteering, if that is your desire. The pool, latte machine and milk shakes are a great addition. The food was always good and the kitchen staff are accomodating to dietary needs. A park entrance is literally at the camps back door. As soon as we entered the park, baboons ran across the road in front of our vehicle. John, James and Liz are great guides! Will be back!

Watching an incredible sunrise from our comfortable chalet overlooking the Mara was just the beginning of many incredible experiences we had at Mara West. The Mara West Camp has a perfect setting perched on ridge with views of the vast Masai Mara and includes smooth access to the Safari Park below. Our guide John seemed a step ahead of other tour guides in finding the most unique spots to observe wildlife; all the while providing incredibly knowledgeable commentary about the Mara and its inhabitants. One of the many unique features of Mara West is the value they create in the local community. Taking the opportunity to visit and observe the work they are doing in the surrounding Masai community to improve healthcare and education really completed our adventure and overall experience. The Mara West Team are not just stewards of the amazing Masai Mara National Reserve but give back immeasurably to the Masai people living in the surrounding villages and towns. The friendly staff are local and provided a joyful energy with every encounter. Bottom line for us is that Mara West created an opportunity to go way beyond a world class safari; it enhanced our understanding of the history and culture of Kenya and the Masai people. This added element for us was as rewarding, enjoyable and valuable as seeing the Big 5! Thank you, Mara West, for creating an adventure experience we will never forget!…

Mara West Camp is located in a beautiful setting high on the escarpment overlooking the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The views are simply breathtaking! Access to the Maasai Mara is easy via a park entrance just down the hill from Camp. The grounds and facilities are top notch and well maintained. The chalets and "glamping" tents are clean and tasteful and comfortably furnished. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The pool, including two "warm" pools for the kids to play in, is beautiful. The food was delicious with plenty of variety. The guides were knowledgeable and helpful and "found" all the top animals. We observed a cheetah chase and kill, leopard, lions, including a pair mating, rhinos, hippos, cape buffalo, elephants, giraffes, zebra.....the list could go on and on. We definitely recommend Mara West and have put it on our list of return destinations.…

Mara West was a wonderful home base for our group mission trip and safari. The staff were amazing, warm and welcoming at all times during our stay. We enjoyed making many new friends and spending time with old friends as well as spending time working together to improve the lives of the locals by updating, creating and serving in the current facilities. The surrounding area is beautiful with many animals roaming the property. The accommodations are very comfortable and nicely appointed. The newly built pool facilities are beautiful and a perfect place to relax with a coffee, drink and snack bar. Highly recommended!

Just spent several glorious days at the Mara West Camp. We relaxed, safaried (saw the big 5) and spent time in the local community with several service projects. The location (2 minutes from the park entrance) staff and hosts at the camp are exceptional and the meals and facilities were also great! Love the new swimming pool, too! We will be back!!

We arrived at Mara West greeted by giraffes and zebras. The friendly staff led us to our chalet located on the edge of the escarpment providing a panoramic view of the Maasai Mara. The chalet was exquisite. The beds were comfortable and the distinctly African decor delightful. Walking to the restaurant, we encountered resident wildlife with zebras, gazelles and giraffes. The food was African cuisine deliciously prepared by the in-house chef. The staff went out of their way to make us feel like a part of the Mara West family. Needs were anticipated and courteously performed. The owners, Andy, Francis, Dustin and Lindsey were over the top hospitable and provided mission experience that was well organized and meaningful. The 3 safari days with Joseph and John were out of this world incredible. The gate to the park is minutes away from Mara West and as you descend down the escarpment into the rift valley animals were immediately encountered. Our safari guides were extremely knowledgeable regarding the flora and fauna we encountered. The first day we saw four out of the big five animals thanks to our eagle eyed guides. The following day the fifth and most elusive member, the leopard, completed the coveted big five sightings. We were also taken to a close by, authentic Maasai village that revealed to us a peek into the Maasai community and culture. The final night the chef provided pizza they was gourmet wonderful and cooked in a large pizza oven at the new pool area.…

This is completely my sort of place. An African delight. Extremely comfortable in an understated way. Position and staff wonderful. Our every need was catered for in all departments. And our game driver John was perfection with excellent knowledge and so keen for us to have the best possible experience which we did. Mara West is in the very heart of it all with zebra and giraffe strolling right up to the door at all times.

Mara West is located on a hillside overlooking a portion of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Looking out of our chalet was a beautiful view of the area especially to catch a sunrise. Mara West is located inside the National Reserve and there were a variety of zebras, giraffes and other animals roaming freely about or nearby the area. At night, we could hear the brief sounds of hyena and the occasional roar of lions. It is amazing place and one of the highlights of our visit to Kenya and Tanzania. The staff at Mara West are fantastic. We met the owners of Mara West who were very engaging and responsive. Irene was our personal attendant making sure everything was prepared for us. My wife actually had tears in her eyes when saying goodbye to Irene. Thank you! Steven was the bartender and a personable conversationalist. The Chef, well, he prepares some amazing meals both at the camp and on the go travel boxes if we were planning to safari all day. Wilson was our camp guide who provided us an escort at night to our chalet. The escort is required due to being in a camp that is frequented by a variety of animals. Grace was our housekeeper and could not have been more personable. She impressed us by carrying our luggage on top of her head! All in all, my wife and I would definitely recommend Mara West as the place to stay if you are visiting the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Thank you everyone at Mara West, you made us feel special in every way.…
