We live in Guangzhou, China and traveled to Beijing for a week. We stayed at Shambhala based on friends recommendations who live in Beijing. The gist of my review is to first agree with most of the other reviews on this review section. The exception may be the reviews that are overly harsh of the cleanliness. Although I do see... More

I had read some bad reviews of this property but wanted to give it a try. We found this to be an amazing location with incredible access to a wild section of The Great Wall. It is rustic and if you are looking for great luxury and what I would call a sterile environment it is not the place for... More

From the brochure/website, guests will imagine as we did a limosine pickup at the airport; in actual experience, guests will discover that an old well-worn van picks them up..Imagine an English-speaking driver; actually you get a driver who speaks no English and has no water bottles. Imagine clean rooms with clean sheets and pillowcases; actually dusty rooms with unwashed bed... More

Avoid at all cost.! Spent one night there and will never return. Firstly - wet towels in the bathroom, tissue boxs empty, toilet had been used and not cleaned, extremely poor lighting, bed head light did not work. Secondly - reverse cycle heating malfunctioned turning itself off and on every minute. Only way to turn it off was to switch of main power.... More

To start off with the good, the location is amazing with great views of unrestored wall surrounding and even going through the property. The property has massive potential and with good management could be an ideal relaxing resort. The downside started with us arriving on a wet afternoon, everything inside and outside the rooms was damp, there was mould up... More

What an amazing experience! The setting, against the backdrop of the Great Wall, is magical.the rooms were basic but ethnic and enchanting. It would not take much to make this a five-star experience. However, the standard of cleanliness in the rooms was appalling - bed linen, shower, dust and floors. We left our room locked and were surprised to find... More

This trip was booked for me when I visited my friend in Beijing last October and I was not disappointed. The Red Capital Ranch is located in a private valley surrounded by mountains, with a river running through the estate and the local village and villagers nearby along with horses for horse riding and a beautiful, friendly little dog. Part... More

DO NOT STAY HERE! As another reviewer stated, it would take too long to list all the problems with this place, but all you need to know is that you sleep here, you will have rats crawling all over you at night. My wife woke up to find a rat on her back and when she screamed we saw that... More

This is my second trip to the Red Capital Ranch along the Great Wall. The last time I went was about 4 years ago. The place does not fail to amaze me. Rustic cottages set and decorated in different architectural styles – Manchurian, Mongolian, etc… dot this valley with a stream flowing beside it and a pond in front of... More
