Had a wonderful weekend getaway from Ubud. Walking on a quiet beach, watching the surfers enjoying the waves. Cooling off in the room side pool, ahhhh, nice.thanks for a great stay. The gentle breeze blowing through the room kept it cool in the hottest parts of the day.

Stayed 4 nights at istana Balian Nov-2013. This small complex captures a high class accomadation at a affordable price. 3 minuates walk to beach & excellant surf that breaks on all tides, but located away from the noise. Staff excellant, rooms 5 star. Will be back with friends.

What an amazing experience. The staff were great, they looked after our every need. Even though the villa is located just a small walk from the beach it was nice to be away from the main drag. This is about the only accomodation in Balian that you can sit by the pool or in the restaurant away from passer-bys and cars/scooters. Love balian, it's still a chilled beach. The surf crowds are on the increase, but still a friendly crew... Istanas a beautiful place to hang out... Nice pool, great little bar..great rooms with a nice breeze.. had one meal here and tried all the other restaurants... Istana food 2/10. Yes I will stay at istana again....

We had 7 nights at Istana Balian. The accommodation is actually nicer than the photos suggest. The two story bungalow accommodation is huge, and the upper level is really stunning.
