I was in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala for eye surgery in April of 2013. I stayed overnight in Antigua on my way back to the United States so I could catch an early shuttle to the airport. Having some experience with the Black Cat in Quetzaltenango, I decided to check out the Black Cat in Antigua. It was dirty, noisy, overcrowded, and... More

I stayed here one night. It is very cheap. The building is tin-roofed and ramshackle but kind of charming. There was a nice view from the top balcony. The dorms were pretty cramped. The wiring on the showers looked very dodgy and they were cold. The other guests were mostly gap year types on the shuttle bus circuit; sociable but... More

I stayed there twice and had a really good time! The breakfast, which is free, is awesome, really huge and delicious! I had a good vibe with the staff, they were very friendly, funny and helpful. The hostel is very close to everything. The market, the central park, a gym, a lot of bars - everything only a few blocks... More

This place was unwelcoming from the start! It's super small, super loud... I mean LOUD.. so if you wanna sleep, don't even stay on that block. We looked at the beds and they were dirty, tiny, and like cardboard! Same with the communal bathrooms. No ambiance for hanging out at all and the employees were mean... Well the bartender was... Hard-as-rock beds, cold erratic showers and lax security, but a dayum that kitchen can whip up a good feed! Variety of fresh breakfasts for FREE, tasty fresh lunches and dinners. Staff behind the bar are friendly and accommodating, but can they please turn down the v's on the stereo. Love the cinnamon scented stuff the cleaners are spritzing around the... More

It was my first experience at a hostel. I spent two nights there with some friends. It is located a block away from the Cathedral and was pretty close from everything we wanted to visit. The breakfast is huge and very good, we didn't expect to get such a good food in the morning. The rooms were ok, they are... More

We stayed two nights in the dorm. There are two black cats in Antigua - a very expensive (nice) one and the hostel. It was 65 C a dorm bed with free huge breakfast. You could get nice private rooms at other hostels for 120 but they were maybe a 10 minute walk from the square. This one was a... More

The hostel was dirty, cramped and had a bad vibe to it. Private room windows are curtainless and look straight into dorms. Breakfast was delicious but waited for an hour to get it.. travelling alone its probably an awesome place to meet people as everyone was either drunk or hungover

We stayed here for our last night in antigua. It seemed like a cool and sociable place if we had stayed there for longer. The rooms are a bit claustrophobic and in general the place is a bit cramped. Cleanliness was decent with the bathrooms located upstairs (a tad inconvenient. Unfortunately we did have problems with a staff member who... More
