I stayed in the Hotel on the Red Canal in Mandalay and Thein Tun Aung went out of his way to be very helpful and make me feel at home. He is an excellent employee and the Hotel is lucky to have him work there. We need more people in the hotel business like Thein.I hope to return to the... More

The Hotel by the Red Canal is a super hotel for a visit to Mandaly. It is centrally located--very close to the old Palace grounds. It is an intimate little oasis in the bustle of the city, tight in space but laid out with charm and complete with all the amenities, including a small pool. The rooms, although somewhat small,... Be sure to have plenty of kyats to pay your bills. This hotel was quoting 700 Kyats to the US dollar when all other hotels in Yangon, Bagan and Mandalay were quoting 800 Kyats.. Our stay started off with a room-safe left locked by the previous guest. It didn't give us any confidence to use the safe when the hotel... More

From the staff who provide a warm welcome at the gate, to the attractive teak interiors and the perfectly proportioned rooms and gardens, staying in this hotel is a most pleasant experience. Breakfasts are generous and fresh. The hotel is very well located for a visit to the Palace and the Hill top for the mandatory sunset view. Not to... More

Very nice looking hotel on the outside but some gaps. The staff were courteous offering towels and a tea, sugar, and a tamarind drink on each arrival. The cocktail party was worth attending and a plus for the hotel. The hotel car, however, was a wrecker...doors didn't open, no springs, backfiring...The only time that I have ever seen a car like... The Hotel by the Red Canal was one of the most enjoyable places to stay on our recent visit to Myanmar. You are greeted by staff as you arrive. The room we had was on the first floor and was spotless, quiet and very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again the next time we are in Mandalay. More

This is a small owner-managed hotel, whose facilities you cannot compare with big government- backed competitors. Nevertheless, it was very good value; the food, though limited in choice was generally good, particularly the Indian food, and the staff were extremely warm and welcoming. It is OK for 3-4 nights but would be boring for much longer. The hotel was spotless... More

We stayed at this hotel for three nights. I think it's a reasonable hotel and the staff are very helpful always meeting you after a day out with a drink and wet flannel. When we arrived we were allocated a downstairs room which I definitely would not recommend. The room is small and there is no room at all to... More

We spent 5 days there over new year and it was a wonderful experience,. The Staff made an amazing effort with the preparations (which included boarding over more than half of the swimming pool to accomodate extra tables. The entertainment for the evening was very good and included some excellent presentatioms by the staff themselves. The buffet dinner was superb... More

We stayed here for 2 nights late December 2011. The hotel is overall excellent and very well managed. The restaurant is very good with superb Indian food. The room we stayed in was quite small, but you spend so little time in the room. It was very clean and everything worked well. Each night we were there they had a... More
