I spent one night here only because the hostel I was meant to stay at was fully booked. I've never met such incapable staff. Very unfriendly. No atmosphere, impersonal and not very social. Dirty toilets/bathrooms, uncomfortable and dirty beds and cockroaches in the kitchen. Absolutely no value for money. Only good thing: you get a towel. Oh and the location is quite good and close to the beach.

The place is ok, the staff is nice and is close to everything. It's a bit smelly and the bathrooms are not that great, but I would recommend of one or two nights. The beds could be improved and the room is very hot.

Thought this place was a huge ripoff. Paid 15,000 CLP for a single room with private bathroom. Clean enough but pretty noisy if you're a light sleeper bring earplugs. Every door requires being slammed shut and resemble shower doors so light gets in. I could hear the noisy men in the next room all night (their TV, everytime they got up to hock a loogie in the bathroom, complete with multiple door slams. Also heard other guests on opposite side, so woke up very cranky!) And to top it off no breakfast was included and I wasn't allowed to leave my luggage to store after checkout. As another commenter mentioned, the rooms do have TVs but truly you can watch maybe one channel. The bathroom was fine, usual mold on shower curtain and dirty grout found in every other hostel (though I usually pay much less). Hot water was no problem but the pressure left something to be desired and somehow wound up with water all over bathroom floor. My room had no windows and the place reeked of midlew even though they obviously do try and keep it at bay because when I checked it there was the strong smell of bleach. Oh and wifi only worked in common areas which was annoying. Plus it wasn't password protected making me feel unsafe checking email (had an IT friend fill me in on why this is sketchy so am now justifiably paranoid about it). All in all I felt I'd gotten taken. I'm sure there are better places but I have no idea where they are.

The Beach Hostal in Iquique, Chile is located at Vivar 1707, about a block from Playa Cavancha. First the good: It is a good location, just a few minutes from a nice beach and 10-15 minutes walk from the city center. Nice common areas, comfortable sofas and WiFi (ask for the secret code). Quite cheap, $10,000 CLP for a single room with private bathroom. Nice and helpful staff. Now the bad: No common-use computer to access internet (if you ask to use the one in the office, they might allow it, but not for long periods of time), so if you do not bring your own laptop, you are out of luck. However, it's not too big of a deal because there are several internet cafes within a few minutes' walk. My single room with private bathroom was not great. My biggest complaint was that the bathroom was smelly (and the smell came into the room). There was also no toilet paper or soap (had to buy both). Oh and NO HOT WATER (well the first night I did get hot water for about 60 seconds, then it went cold...the next two nights I only got cold water). There is a fully equipped kitchen, as advertised, but there is a sign on the door that prohibits its use by guests. Breakfast consisted of 2 slices of white bread with a slice of cheese in the middle. And instant coffee. "Cable" TV consisted of about 6 channels that were extremely fuzzy. The best channel to come through Animal Planet, which was not so bad I guess. No remote. Pretty dead social scene...I may have come at an off time, but there were few travelers staying there. So all in all, not a horrible option, but you might try somewhere else. I was not all that impressed, although it's quite cheap, so I cannot complain too much.
