We red about the TripAdvisor entries of earlier customers after we booked it and I was kind of afraid. But it wasn't so bad as I think it would be. The room with aircon was quite big for 350 IDR per night. Some parts of the room and bathroom are not clean especially the corners but also the floor. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom and no bin to put it in if you would have some. The Pool is perfect cold for refreshing. I couldn't find a shower next to the pool which I think is quite important, because I want me and others to shower before and after the pool. The staff is friendly. Two we met can speak really good english, the rest just don't but won't tell you, that they don't understand. All in all allright place to stay.

Just a few minutes walk from Ubud's market Permana Cottages is located in the outside and overlooking the rice fields (best from #11 and #13). Rooms are spacious and acceptable clean, unfortunate no fridge. From the private terras relax and enjoy the rice fields. Note: not accessable by car! Motorbike no problem (after Café des Artist (left) and Minimarket (right) take the second path right and follow untill the end.

This is overpriced accommodation that is not clean or ever cleaned. While out for the evening, my room was entered between 7.00-10.00pm under the pretence of removing a faulty lamp. After asking the staff at breakfast, 'who went into my room' it was revealed a lamp was not working. There was a bedside lamp left on during the evening plus curtains closed, so it was strange to enter a guest's room and remove the other lamp. Anyway, all I can say is money ($A300) was missing from a wallet in my case and for a hotel that doesn't pride itself on cleanliness, it is rather odd, a supposed faulty lamp was of interest. I don't know if the lamp worked or not!! The garden is maintained so full credit to the gardener but there is an area overlooked by reception that has plastic bottles and garbage floating around. Unbelievable mould and an unhygienic kitchen so be careful. My advice to fellow travellers is to do a search of the same location and you will find guest houses/home stays for half the price, twice the value and with friendlier hosts.

Let the buyer beware! These ten or so units are ideally situated almost in the centre of Ubud. We arrived as a group of six and we two were in the top right hand side unit on the third floor, number 13. The units have the balconies facing due south overlooking the Padi fields. Cooling breezes waft over the balconies in the afternoon and there is an air conditioner in each room. Breakfast is provided and there are excellent restaurants literally at the end of the rather long walkway. All this for around $45 a night in the July/August peak season. Sounds idyllic. And now for the bad news. After a surly welcome, the rooms were 'ready' at 16:35 whilst the staff played on their phones. We hopefully asked if the rooms were cleaned daily. No. There are no top sheets but a nylon throw over and a spare blanket in the cupboard. They do come in and fold them up - sometimes. They have a mop and that is flicked around - again, sometimes. We asked if we could have an extra egg - quite willing to pay - again an abrupt and emphatic NO. We came back to our room one day to find vomit in our blocked handbasin. They tried to pretend it was not their staff but a previous guest. On day three? They unscrewed the bend under the handbasin and the filth went all over the floor - no bucket. Another guest had a blocked toilet for two days. There is no safe, no soap, no fridge and no kettle. Security is minimal and all staff have access to the keys hanging up at the often unattended 'reception'. So beware. We had to ask for towels and toilet paper. The shower sprays onto the floor by the toilet so if you use the toilet your underwear will be soaked. The junior staff are quite friendly but hopeless as they have had no training. Both the managers and the owners also seem unconcerned. If you saw the 'kitchen' and the washing up facilities, you too would have eaten around the corner, as some of us felt we had to - even though we had paid for 'breakfast'. You get what you pay for - if you can just accept it as a bed - not too bad - but under good management it could have been so much more. Ozdreamer

We were very disappointed with our stay at the Permana Cottages. Our room has definitely not been cleaned in a long time, there was dust and dirt everywhere, there were even some VERY old bananas laying in the fridge when we arrived. The bathroom didn't even have any soap to wash our hands, no towels, was mouldy and the tap was broken. Of course, for that price you can't expect too much. On booking.com it says that the room costs IDR 250k per night, however, it turned out that the room instead cost IDR 450k per night - almost double. For that price, the condition of the room is definitely not acceptable and being charged almost twice the amount is definitely not ok. All in all, we can absolutely not recommend staying at the Permana Cottages and wish we would have stayed at a different hotel.

The room we booked was not available.! They didn't want to say it first so they say come back at 12. When we came back they finally admit the room is not available. The man who took care of the situation was almost sleeping when talking, giving us a twin room instead, and thinking that a 2 dollars discount was going to make us happy. Anyway we had no other option so checked in. The room was new but not even finished d with electric cable hanging around. The shower was not working well and very very low pressure. The place where we had the breakfast was unclean. Very very poor service. Don't go there.

The rooms are large and airy, the prices are good but Permana fails in its cleanliness. The rooms are basic but functional. Breakfast was nice - juice, fruit and omelette mostly and occasionally pancakes. The pool and surrounds are inviting on a hot day. Lovely views from the balcony where breakfast is served. Barking dogs were occasionally annoying. Good value for the price, especially if you get a well cleaned room.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Good location with everything you need within 5-10 min walk. Friendly and helpful staff. Good sized room with a great view over a ricefield. Only bad thing was that the room wasnt very clean and the breakfast was average. Although over all worth the money

Firstly it's a serene place to stay within rice fields and the staff are friendly, but it's a little off the beaten track down a side street then through a long lane, but of course that's why it's serene, away from from the hustle and bustle. Every morning at 8am the building works begin around this area and it is noisy! The rooms are not that clean, dust which I can accept until I entered the bathroom. Very old and tired, parts were broken and cobwebs and dirt. There are plus sides, the pool area is lovely, the views beautiful and the breakfast is ok. I paid a little more for a hotel in seminyak and that was perfect so to say 'you get what you pay for' is not quite true. I'd go back to ubud in a heartbeat, but not to Permana!
