We arrived on the mountain train and then on to the hotel monorail down to the ryokan. Very special. Beautiful tranquil location. All the staff very friendly and courteous. Maid service for all meals in our room and the food was very interesting and delightful. We rented the Cedar onsen for ourselves - very tranquil. The village at the top,... More

My parents came to Japan to visit my wife and I so I thought, a traditional Japanese hot spring experience was in order. After some research, we decided on this place. We drove from Tokyo which took roughly 2 hours with a pit stop. On arrival the staff welcomed us demonstrating fine Japanese hospitality. The cable car ride was tranquil... More

First of all for us the overall experience was fantastic. We came by car and Taisekan provides a parking. They have their very own cable car which brings you down to the hotel! From the cablecar it's a nice 2 minute walk through the nice garden across the little river over the bridge to Teisekan. It's a very quiet location... More

Best location to experience typical Japanese inn with excellent food and hot springs bath. Very clean and has its own ropeway (cable car) from Hakone to the inn which is located on a creek in a valley. Best time to visit is autumn when the surrounding gardens burst into vibrant colors or spring when various flowers could be enjoyed.

For the full traditional ryokan experience Taiseikan is probably hard to beat. A stunning location, perched beside a rushing river that can only be reached by cable car (monorail), exceptional Japanese dinner and breakfast served in your room by a friendly and helpful 'maid', attentive staff who endeavour to meet your every need, both private and public onsen - the... After reading some of the reviews here, we decided to book this ryokan, our stay was very disappointing, the room was nothing special at all, the furniture was pretty cheap, the bathroom was small and smelly. The food that was the other thing that attracted us to this place was SUPER disappointing, most of the little dishes that the brought... More

We stayed in Taiseikan for two nights in April and were very happy with our choice of the ryokan. It is a unique ryokan, located in a scenic valley that you can reach only by their private cable car. They have a beautiful garden, a small waterfall and a river on the premises. The food was amazing! We had regular... More

I traveled with two friends to Tokyo and Hakone after completing an international class for our MBA in Beijing. While we loved Tokyo, visiting Hakone and staying at Hotel Taiseikan was our favorite part of the trip. We actually stayed in March 2010. The grounds were absolutely lovely because there were flowers everywhere. It snowed during our entire visit, and... More

Impeccable service! Great food! Wonderful onsens (public and private)! Our experience was superb and we would definitely want to come back for a second stay in Hakone!
