I stayed at Kumagai Ryokan for on night in the middle of February. The streets of Morioka were cold and icy but this lovely inn was warm and hospitable. It is a short 15 minutes walk from Morioka Station, and just a few minutes walk from the center of town. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. She gave me many... More

We had a delightful 3 day stay here. We had two rooms and both were large and comfortable. The owner and her dog Gunther made us very welcome. It is a family run Ryokan with a bar/restaurant below. All family members were warm and helpful. Despite the restaurant being part of the premises there are no noise problems. We had... More

My partner and I just spent three days at Kumagai Ryokan, a lovely, family owned and operated guesthouse located just a few minutes' walk from both the JR Train Station and the liveliest shopping and dinng area in Morioka. The rooms are upstairs at Kumagai, and are all air-conditioned; they range from compact to quite spacious, so ask what's available... More

I stayed here with two friends as we were taking a test in Morioka and needed reasonably-priced accommodation for one night. This ryokan is perhaps slightly expensive considering that neither dinner nor breakfast are included, but the service we received more than made up for it. The woman in charge was so friendly and made us feel very welcomed. We... More

Nice enough place with a very western feel - the lady manager is a sweet hostess. Unfortunately, her english is rather limited, so don't expect too much help. Price is decent, has its own bath which is quite pleasant, and even has its own restaurant which I did not take advantage of. Also, the manager's pet dog, also the inn... More

We stayed at Kumagai Ryokan for 2 nights, and found it to be an absolute highlight of our accommodations during our 3 week holiday. The room was spacious and great value, and we were kept nice and toasty warm whilst it snowed outside. We had a thoroughly entertaining evening downstairs at the restaurant/bar, using my basic Japanese and their broken... More

I stayed at Kumagai Ryokan for 3 nights and was extremely happy with my stay. Kumagai offers a very cute and friendly ryokan experience at excellent value for money. I paid $40/night for a single room with shared bathroom facilities, which is great by Japanese standards. It was a particularly cold Spring, so it was wonderful to come back and... More

I spent two weeks in this lovely place. So close to the city but in a little side street so very quiet. Everyone was friendly, it was a sad time to leave. The food in the restaurant is very delicious and so it the beer on tap. The friendly fluffy mascot, Gunther, always makes me smile. I cant wait to... More

We stayed two nights in this friendly pleasant ryokan. Had a huge room (with fridge etc and a comfy couch as well) and loved it. Make sure you eat at the great restaurant run by the daughter. The set meal was fabulous and very reasonably priced - as was the ryokan itself - at 8000Yen for two it compares very... More

This is a traditional Japanese ryokan. Initially my husband and I had problem finding this ryokan. Luckily we approached a very helpful security guard from one of the hotel near the Morioka Station. He helped us to call the ryokan and he roughly guide us to the direction to the ryokan. To our surprise, the friendly owner actually come all... More
