We visited Hotel Penaga having read reviews on Mr and Mrs Smith. We had just come from a fantastic boutique hotel in KL that was half the price of Penagabut with exceptional service (Villa Samahdi) and therefore had very high expectations for Penaga. How disappointed we were. The reception was sadly completely soulless with a cold welcome and a strong... More

This boutique property seems to have everything going for it. Its a semi restoration project with a green ethos that has produced a visually beautiful hotel. The rooms with balconies are spacious and exquisitely furnished as indeed are all the public areas. Unfortunately, the TLC that has so clearly been lavished is let down by woeful service and lacklustre standards.... More

We enjoyed 2 nights here in a Hutton Delux room (without balcony). Staff were friendly and the room we had was beautiful. Our room had a spa bath and it was fantastic to relax in after a busy day. The bed was very hard, though we are finding that seems to be the norm in SE Asia. We had a... More

We stayed for 2 nights here at half price from the 4th of May 2013 to the 6th of May 2013 at the corner suite. Overall, having stayed before in several boutique hotels of similar features in Malaysia, I personally feel that this hotel reflects a rustic and charming atmosphere with green building features in mind. Pros: 1. Building and... More

Stayed here as part of our honeymoon tour of Malaysia. Was a beautiful hotel and decorated well. The room was spacious and the staff excellent. Be warned however that it is in the middle of a busy street and the windows are all single glazed. We didn't sleep at all on the first night and checked into another hotel on... More

Dear Ijmun, We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the noisy traffic during your honeymoon. The plan to double glazed our windows is in fact an on going project, as we already did with most of the rooms at this point of time. Perhaps, you can email us your contact details so we can give you and update once... More

Beautiful windows, loved the art around the hotel and the room was nice, however the buffet was extremely average, drinks and food way over-priced and generally I thought the hotel was poor value and lacking soul. Would not stay again.

Our sincere apology on your unsatisfactory breakfast experience at Hotel Penaga. Kindly note that we take our guests' comments seriously to further improve our quality of service. As for the overpriced issue is concerned, I believe that our price range is on par with any other hotels in Georgetown area (probably cheaper to compare with some). Last but not least,... More

A charming boutique hotel with beautiful art decor and lovely Chinese antique furniture in the room. While we appreciated the antique furniture, we found the room rather small, the sofa was too small and uncomfortable and lack of space for our luggage and clothing. And the shower was also very small. Breakfast was included but nothing outstanding. Staff were friendly... More
