We planned our stay at Kurakura because of all the enthusiastic reviews from previous. What we know now is that all the previous guests were absolutely right! We stayed for 3 nights of our 3 week trip to Malaysia, enough time for Lars & Liza to share with us the unique experience of living life inside the Bornean jungle. In... More

I have heard about this homestay for years and I have to say it exceeded my expectations. Lars and Lisa were the perfect hosts--the food was amazing, the setting beautiful and my mother LOVED the 'rainforest grocerystore walk' that taught her a lot about the jungle vegetables and resulted in our dinner for the evening. Perfect escape from the heat... More

Brilliant. Just back from a two day trip staying at Kurakura Homestay, a guesthouse in the upper Sarawak river - a tranquil jungle paradise surrounded by Borneo rainforest. This is a longhouse built by themselves four years ago. Lars (Norwegian), Liza (from Bidayuh tribe), their 3 year old daughter Froya (who we named "Macaque" during my visit), two wonderful cats... We really enjoyed our stay at Kura Kura, it was definately a highlight of our trip to Malaysia. We weren't sure what to expect because we didn't want to feel like we were imposing on someone's home, feel in the way or find the hosts overbearing! Our experience was far from this - Lars and Liza's hospitality is spot on.... More

Everything about Kurakura homestay exceeded our expectations. We were first greeted by Lars and taken to get a few supplies before a boat trip upriver to their home. Liza and Lars were welcoming and friendly and we had a great time with them. Liza's jungle shopping is a must do, and we loved going around the garden helping to pick... More

With such a high level of fantastic commendations on TA it is incredible that Lars and Liza can exceed your expectations. From the moment Lars collected us at our Kuching hotel you knew you were in for a a wonderful experience. Our first one of these was visiting the market for provisions. Then onto the boats for the trip to... More

Our family (children 8 and 6 years old) spent 3 wonderful days in a jungle with our hosts Lars, Liza and Fröya. It is difficult to find words for their place; they create something special to feel like it is your home too. There was no problem during our stay. Lars and Liza are trying to find your interests and... More

It's hard to argue with the other TA reviews about Kurakura. There are probably lots of equally beautiful spots in Sarawak and plenty of other great value accommodation. But what makes this place really exceptional is the hospitality of Lars and Liza (and their gorgeous daughter Freya). In case the name isn't enough of a giveaway, it is their home... More

Lars & Liza are wonderful hosts and make the KuraKura homestay experience very memorable. Liza is a fantastic cook, providing excellent meals with a local flavour. The use of local fruits, vegies and herbs-often collected by Liza and the guests from the jungle- adds to the overall dining experience. Lars is an excellent guide with an intimate knowlwdge of the... More

We stayed with Liza and Lars at their beautiful homestay in the jungle. We went jungle shopping with them and learned about the plants and food from the rainforest. The bedrooms were basic but adequate. Take plenty of mosquito repellent and thick socks. Liza is a great cook and we ate well. LIza and Lars are great hosts and we... More
