We spent three nights here as a base to visit minority villages in the area. We were well aware that no hotels in the region met Western standards and that dining options would be limited. All true. Not much in Kaili is attractive to tourists, including this hotel. The room was adequate in size and the two beds were reasonably... More

We stayed in this hotel for two nights as part of our private Guizhou tour. The lobby, the souvenir store and the little bar looked pretty good, and once we got into our room, it was fine as well. During our trip throughout Guizhou our expectations have been lowered significantly. This is ok as Guizhou is not very much visited... More

Not a good place to stay. Hard to visit the Minorities without staying nearby, but this place is just not up to Western standards. We left after two nights. Cannot understand how they got the 4 star rating. There is something wrong with a system that allows a dirty place (although spacious) to get this rating. Never again.

Probably best option in town. Nice room, fairly clean. But English nonexistent.

The property is convenient located, near a large square with some shops. Rooms need some renovations and are not spotless. Carpet is worn out and towels greyish. Beds are hard, but that is common in China. Limited or no English spoken, except for the Asst. Manager who did quite well. Very helpfull man.Breakfast with minimal choice for Western people, and... A 2 night visit had been scheduled; however, we wanted to leave immediately, but it was not feasible; thus, this is what I have to say, "STAY AWAY" ! In Nov., 2011, We (two senior citizen couples, not overly self indulgent) had the misfortune of spending 1 night in this dump (instead of 2, as was planned). Upon arrival, we... More

This hotel is also called the Heaven-sent Dragon Hotel - it says so on their headed writing paper. It is a really good hotel and you will be more than happy with your stay here. It is in a central location and a couple of minutes from the square where you are provided with free entertainment every night and morning!... More

Nice, standard, clean hotel. Character less but there arent other choices in Kaili. Chinese breakfast was decent and free wi fi and computer in the room to use! There is a beautiful boutique hotel in nearby (45min drive) Xijiang (the beautiful Miao minority village that is a must see) called "Hotel in the Clouds"- see photos here http://www.xcar.com.cn/bbs/viewthread.php?tid=12163203&page=4 but I... A little difficult to rate this hotel. For the previous week we had been staying in small villages with shower and squat toilet combined in a small cubicle and a hard wooden bed. Therefore, when seeing the Grand Dragon for the first time you think it is luxury - a bathroom with white towels and soft beds! However, by the... More

Kaili is an amazing place to visit, and the Grand Dragon is currently your best choice for lodging in this city. The Grand Dragon rates about two-and-a-half stars from a western mindset. The hotel itself is rather old, but the staff works hard to make your stay as pleasant as possible. I usually found at least one person on duty... More
