Located 13kms away from Munnar at a lower altitude, good for quiet getaways and relaxed holidays. Home cooked food with a limited menu can be a challenge. Friendly and helpful hosts. A good option for those looking for a break away from the noisy town and live in the company of nature waking upto bird calls every day.

The location was excellent as it was 10km before Munnar in a quiet atmosphere. We heard mesmerising bird chirping from early morning ...beautiful hill views..nice garden..The views make us feel that the homestay is situated in a valley (between hills) .. The room was small with a big cot and bathroom..No cupboards to keep bags..(which is disappointing)value for money missing. Room,... More

First of all let me thank Mr:Raghav for your good compliments about our homestay. But it makes us feel disappoint that you have added some extra complaints which are not actually true in order to boost your review which are: 1) You have told that” -Breakfast (complimentary) was OK taste wise but not enough quantity wise”. You have reserved the... More

We stayed here for 2 nights. It is a good bit from Munnar and not as high up as some of the other guesthouses/homestays around Munnar. That said, it is in a lovely atmospheric setting. The room is basic and clean. The shower did need a bit of fiddling around with to get to the right temperature but once there... More

Let me thank you for giving some positive comments about our home stay. And I am extremely sorry for the inconvenience that was caused due to the improper working of the shower. It is a home stay in which we our self leaves, there are limits for us to provide facilities and services. Choosing a home stay is not depending... More

We went to Munnar in one night trip which was arranged by Saj from Sajhome. I think that the Shade was a second option from Munnar hotestays. Room was clean or actually there was two rooms, I think it's perfect for families. But there was no fan in the ceiling, no AC. Fan would have been enough. There was no... More

The Shade (like most decent homestay's in Munnar) is located approximately 30mins auto-rickshaw ride from Munnar town, along a quiet country road. Our room was clean, comfortable and well-equipped. The bathroom was spotless with plenty of hot water. Due to it's distance from town, we asked for both breakfast and dinner - we were not disappointed. Delicious traditional Keralan meals,... More

I can't recommend The Shade enough for an authentic Indian homestay experience. Santhosh and his family are warm and welcoming, and the accommodations are comfortable but not overly Westernized. The food is good, and the rooms are a great deal -- especially with the breakfast included. (Other meals also available.) Best of all, however, are the views and the setting.... More

I went to The Shade looking for a peaceful escape from which to do some writing, and was not disappointed. The scenery is simply astounding, the meals wonderful (all prepared using ingredients from their land below), and Santosh and his family are really excellent hosts. For my purposes this was the perfect place - it was nice to sit and... More

We couldn't have asked for more form the generous and lovely Santosh. He accomodated all our needs and we also got to meet his lovely family. He and his wife taught us some cooking and also he showed us around his plot of land and all his plants. Do ask if you can also do this if you stay. It... More
